[How to] Backup your Game Data
« on: May 01, 2014, 06:59:21 PM »
Making Backups of your Game Data is an easy process & gives you peace of mind that all your hard work, avatars, components & saved worlds cannot be lost.

All you need is a Removable USB storage device which is compatible with the Xbox -(most are)

What is needed to make a backup:

A proper backup copy of any important data is always stored on a separate device.
A USB memory stick is the easiest device to use for this. Most USB memory devices are compatible with xbox formatting.
There are also many external Hard Disk Drives out there which are compatible.
Compatibility lists are easily found.

Whatever compatible device you use will first need to be formatted by the Xbox.
This takes only minutes to do. There is a guide here on how to do that.

As Indie Game Data is limited to 2GB total size, there is no advantage in using a USB device or HDD partition larger than 2GB for this purpose. Even a small 512MB or 1GB device will be plenty enough for most players. Extra devices can be used whenever necessary.

How to Backup the Game Data:

Insert your USB storage device into your Xbox USB slot

_____________

At the Dashboard, go to System:

_____________

Select Storage:

_____________

Select your Hard Drive (Or whatever your usual saving device is. Memory Unit or wtvr)

_____________

Select Games and Apps:

_____________

Select Indie Games:

_____________

Select Total Miner Forge Data:

_____________

Select Copy:

_____________

Select the device you wish to copy the data to:

_____________

The data will now be copied to your removable storage device & you have will have successfully created a Backup for all your Game Data.

If anything should happen to the saved data for this game on your xbox, you are now able to restore it all back to this point using your Backup data.

_______________

Updating your Backup Data

It is recommended to update your backup data before updating the game, & as often as you make significant changes which you do not wish to lose.

To update your Backup file simply follow the same steps again as above, moving the saved data on your xbox to your removable storage device.

You will be asked if you want to Replace the existing data on the storage device, select Yes and the Game Data will be updated.

______________

Restoring from Backup data

If for some reason the Game data on your xbox gets damaged, lost or corrupted & you need to restore your game using your backup data, Follow the same steps as above but select to Copy the Game Data From the removable storage device To your usual xbox storage device, & replace data when asked.

OR Just upload it to your cloud? Or if you have a built in memory unit, then copy the file over yonder.
