So I'm assuming everyone has now noticed the new like system we're using in place of rep. It may or may not be permanent, I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet. The benefits of it from my perspective are
1. No downvoting. As much as I personally feel that downvoting should be allowed, people were not using it right. Following someone around the forum to downvote each post just because you don't like them is not acceptable.
2. There's no running number total for amount of likes. Thus no reason for "cousins" to make forum accounts just to upvote posts. Also should keep the competition for who has the highest number that doesn't do anything to a bare minimum.
I could have just used a Facebook like system, but I have doubts that people would actually use it. I have a hard time believing people would want to spam up their facebook with tons of forum posts. I could be wrong about that, I don't know. Also I'm sure there's folks that just don't want to have their actual information revealed on the forums just to like a post.
And just as a brief explanation of how it actually works. Say you click like on this post for example, where does it go?
This would be shown on both my profile and yours. To view them you go to profile>profile info>like posts. From here you can select liked by user or liked by others. If you were viewing my profile, liked by user would be posts I've clicked the like button on, liked by others would be the posts of mine that other people have liked. These show the last 25 liked posts in each category. I can increase it to show more posts if people feel they want to see more. For now 25 should be more than sufficient.
Anywho, as I'm not sure if I want to keep it or not, feedback is welcome.
