In other words, you join a clan, thinking that its great, you have found people to play with and make awesome things together, but after 2 days or so, everyone disappears from it and this clan is now back to being you alone

We all have different views, in my opinion a clan is a group of people who are joined together to have fun in-game. Although I think this, I understand others can think that a clan is a group of people who can't kill anyone I the "clan" or "group." There is no solid answer to your question, as we all have different views.
