General Discussion / Marooca's RPG [AKA The Unaesthetic Game]
« on: December 12, 2016, 02:07:14 AM »
So I've been getting back in to game development again lately, specifically 2D because Unity's 3D (and 2D to some extent) physics engine infuriates me to no end. Now, obviously by the footage you can tell I'm not the artistic type. I'm not necessarily trying to make a visually appealing game at the moment, more so a functional one.

Anyways since all the cool kids have been making gamedev threads on here for a while I figured I'd do the same, I'll post progress updates here occasionally as I learn more about pixel art, janky physics engines, and 2D game development. Enjoy.

Things I've Finished:
Spoiler for Hidden Content:
  • Basic movement
  • Loading individual armor pieces (helmet, body, legs, cloak)
  • Dialog boxes
  • Custom collision and movement system

Things I'd Like to Do
Spoiler for Hidden Content:
  • Quests
  • NPC's
  • Combat system
  • Player stats
  • Art that looks like it wasn't made by a blind child
  • etc (generic RPG elements here)

Ideas / Foreach Loop
« on: December 04, 2015, 09:27:15 PM »
A foreach loop is a type of loop that iterates through a collection (such as an array or list) and runs a series of code/commands every time an item is found in said collection.

Example using C#

//Create a string array of developer names.
string[] developerNames = { "Craig", "Campbell", "Baldy", "martindoolittle" };

// For every string found inside the array, display a messagebox with the developer's name.
foreach(string name in developerNames)
{
    MessageBox.Show(name);
}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example syntax for Toal Miner scripting:

Foreach = Collection to iterate through.
Do = Command(s) to execute.
EndForeach = Indicates the end of a foreach loop.

Foreach
    History [historyName] [player]

Do
    Health [player] [+10]
    Notification [local] [+10 Health!]

EndForeach

This script would add 10 health to the player for every count of the "historyName" attribute found in the player's history.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Uses:
Spoiler for Hidden Content:
Iterate through gold pieces in a player's inventory, add a history count each time an GP is found and finally, notify how many GP's were found.

Quote
ForEach
    HasInventory [player] [GoldPieces] [true]
Do
    History [gp] [player]
EndForeach

Notify [[gamertag] has [history:gp]!

Total Miner Discussion / Nerf the Ice Ring
« on: December 03, 2015, 03:10:54 PM »
The ice ring is so overpowered it's ridiculous. I was playing on a deathmine server the other day. I had full titanium armor and two battle axes, so I was PVP'ing with people. Anyways, someone with an ice ring came up behind me with a titanium sword or something similar and started attacking me. I was dead before I could even turn around to hit him. Isn't there anyway you could at least speed up how fast you you turn after getting hit by someone with an ice ring?

Ideas / Make SetPower Command Work With Locked Doors
« on: November 15, 2015, 12:44:13 AM »
Can we see this in the future? I'd like this to be supported so I can make lockpicks, property management, and other scripts.

Site Suggestions and Bugs / Redesigned Forum Badges [Mockup]
« on: November 11, 2015, 07:56:09 PM »
So I got bored today and decided to redesign some of the forum badges with a more modern feel to them. The only bad thing is that the images are a tad bit bigger than the current badge images (of course they could be scaled down). I don't expect Bob to actually use these, but I was just wondering what you guys thing about them?

The only thing I dislike about the design is that the text is a bit high. I have to change that.

Fun House / Short Rant On Profile Customization
« on: November 11, 2015, 04:00:28 PM »
Okay, so like a lot of people I customized my profile with a bit of CSS to make it unique (changed the color of text), right? But some people seriously take it WAY over the line with customization. Why in 2015 would you make it so everything on your profile page does that stupid spinning thing so that literally no one can read anything? And the unreadable text. Why would you have a dark font on a black background? There are 14 people on the forum using the white theme out of the 3927 total users. Only 14 people can even read your profile! And don't even get me started on the auto loaded music (yes, I know. I was guilty of this in the past). And finally, I'm noticing people starting to embed games in their profile so we all get to wait another 20 seconds for your eye bleeding profile to load.

pls for the love of god make it stop.

/rant over. Sorry for being so salty. I <3 you all.
(Please note this post isn't targeted at anyone specific. This is just stuff I'm noticing all over the forums)

Questions and Answers / Question(s) About Avatar/Unlockable Models
« on: November 07, 2015, 04:20:19 PM »
Is the program used to create & view models for unlockables made in house or by a 3rd party (Blender, Maya, etc)? Also, if possible, will the dev team ever release the files for the unlockable models for use in fan made animations and stuff like that?
