So Valve recently introduced the testing of "paid mods" for Bethesda's game Skyrim. Basically, mod developers can upload their work to the Steam workshop, and optionally they can charge users to download their mod. There are many reasons that this is controversial, such as the revenue split, which is 30:45:25 (Valve:Bethesda:Modder). So the mod developer is only receiving 25% of the revenue from the content he is selling. That means he/she would have to price their mod at about $4.00 just to earn $1.00.There's some more info on the issue here.
Now, this is a question to Craig: When TMF arrives on Steam, will you allow paid mods, and what are your thoughts on this? The community mostly seems to dislike this idea, and has been spamming paid mod discussion pages. In my personal opinion, I don't think it's all that bad of an idea. I think it's cool that the modders are able to be compensated at all for their work, but the revenue split needs some serious adjusting. Decent idea, but poor execution, Valve.
What is your guys' opinion on this? Would you pay to download mods for TMF, or charge other players for mods?
