General Discussion / The War on Total Miner
« on: August 15, 2018, 08:16:51 PM »
I was out to sea for the last 3 months. With no wi-fi and 12 hour (sometimes 16 hours) work days, 7 days a week, I needed some Total Miner to help relax after a hard day of work. So getting back into Total Miner after a long period of time, I found that there was much to learn and while the in-game tutorials help me understand the very basics, I wanted to get back on the TM Forums to read other people's tutorials for things such as scripts and behaviors and share my own insight and questions. I can use my ship's computer to access the internet (at speeds on par or slower than I remember dail-up being) but I am still limited by the ship's network restriction on "gaming" websites. Here's where the problem lies, when I try to access TM Forums, I get a message that this website is listed as a gaming website and gaming websites are blocked.

To find out why gaming sites are blocked by my Command (since "normal people" sites like Facebook and LinkedIn are accessible) I asked some of my buddies who work in that field. Basically, gaming websites are notorious for being riddled with ads and other things that eats up bandwidth. Understandable since there's over 5,000 people on board and there needs to be fair bandwidth usage. I would at least watch the YouTube tutorials but they ended up blocking that site also towards the end of our underway for bandwidth issues. Now, I don't know too much about interwebs stuff, but I can't imagine TMF being that big of a drain on bandwidth, especially when I consider that Facebook is bloated with ads and video streaming.

I have no problems accessing non-gaming related forums and even some obscure gaming websites. I hope someone here can help me find a way to access the Forums for when I go back out to sea. Maybe even change the listing of the site from "gaming" to something else? Maybe @bob can help? Again, I don't know too much on this stuff so any help here would be appreciated. I hope I posted this in the right spot and thanks for reading, guys.

Questions and Answers / Zones: Builder
« on: August 26, 2015, 02:16:25 AM »
Perhaps, I'm just missing something or overthinking about it but in my quest to give people private areas (homes) in my world, I am not finding an ideal solution to the problems I'm running into. When I place a zone down and set a builder, that person still can't edit within that zone. That's fine. I'll just make a script to give edit permissions when entering the zone and then have a script to take edit permissions away when they leave the zone. Simple, yes? No. Now everyone is allowed to edit, not just the zone itself, but everything outside of the zone as long as they themselves remain in the zone.
I've read the in-game "How To" on zones about 5 times now and I'm still having trouble understanding what I'm doing wrong. By default, the edit permission is turned off in my world. I do not have a zone over these zones or even a zone covering the entire world. I've tried both turning off and on the zone edit permissions. Help will be appreciated.

Your Art / As I Die Slowly
« on: August 23, 2015, 09:41:39 PM »
I asked my friend SpookySpears awhile back to write something for my world, for the new book feature that just came out during that time in Total Miner.
Spooks got back to me with a short poem that I can only describe as, "captures the human experience completely."
I hope you enjoy his poem as much as I did and I encourage replies telling us (the community) how you felt when you read this wonderful work of art for the first time.
Thank you and enjoy.

Spoiler for Hidden Content:
My body is covered

with pus filled sores.

You can see the disease

ooze from my pores. . .

I squeeze my sores

till the pus squirts out.

It hurts so bad

it makes me shout. . .

And if you saw me,

all you would say is (EEWWW).

Just the smell

will make you spew. . .

I feel so cancerous

and my skin is peeling.

I'm dying of A.I.D.S ,

what a horrible feeling. . .

They all lived

happily ever after. . .

The end.

Ideas / "Chance" Script
« on: October 18, 2014, 05:53:46 PM »
An idea for a script to randomly select another script command from script folder. Potentially being able to create random number generators, dice rolls, playing cards generator, random npc dialogue, dynamic pathways/dungeons, etc.

An example:
Chance [Dice Roll] >
Notify [Dice Rolls 1] [global]
Notify [Dice Rolls 2] [global]
Notify [Dice Rolls 3] [global]
Notify [Dice Rolls 4] [global]
Notify [Dice Rolls 5] [global]
Notify [Dice Rolls 6] [global]

The chance script command will randomly select one of those dice rolls and notify everyone within the game, which would be ideal for creating board games for your world. Certainly, would also help us RPG map makers give a more non-linear feel to our worlds.

Ideas / Optional Hotbar
« on: April 08, 2014, 07:32:56 AM »
Title says it all. I'm sure it was thought about while 2.0 was being devolped and perhaps the hotbar is not even as fine tuned as Craig wanted it to be but either way I never much liked the hotbar idea in MC either. I can see how the hotbar might be useful for combat but if I'm trying just do some creative work, it's more of an annoyance than a help. I'm not asking for a complete removal of the hotbar, just asking for some middle ground here where players would be able to enable and disable the hotbar through the player or game options. Simply put, it would add in more player control preferences, and more options is gerenally a good thing in a game.

Questions and Answers / Update Not Available For Russia?
« on: April 05, 2014, 05:14:35 PM »
My friend, who lives in Russia, had recently brought up concerns about not being to get the Total Miner update even though she owns the game. She claims that indie games are no longer available in Russia and it might not let her update any indie games she has. Wondering if there's any truth to this and if there is, any work-arounds for it?

Fun House / Craig's Position On Dwarfs
« on: March 31, 2014, 05:40:46 PM »
Enjoy ~

Drake Vengeance: Craig, you know the default sayings for the dwarfs? "What do you need? Keep it short!" and "Let's grow beards together!"?

Drake Vengeance: My friend, Felorn Gloryaxe, who is a dwarf (in spirt) is deeply offended by these biased and insensitive sayings, demands a full apology.

Craig: how about a short apology?

Ideas / "Favoriting" an Avatar Skin
« on: May 19, 2013, 02:09:10 AM »
Whenever I start/join a game in Total Miner I find it annoying to keep having to switch from the default avatar to an avatar I like. My idea for being able to "favorite" an avatar skin (one that you have unlocked, of course) would be that whenever you start/join a game you would be automatically switched over to that avatar skin. I feel this would be a small but much needed improvement to Total Miner's avatar system.
For ways of how to actually "favorite" an avatar I have been thinking the best way for it would be to go to the "Unlockables" list of avatars and being able to press Y or X over the avatar you want to favorite. Once favorited, the avatar's name should be highlighted or text color should change to show it has been chosen for your "favorite".

Questions and Answers / Avatar Creation Requirements?
« on: May 03, 2013, 02:19:40 AM »
I have a few ideas for avatars I would love to get started on and hopefully sumbit them to the developers but I can't seem to find a reliable source of information for requirements for my avatar project. I have found the "Build Your Own Avatar Competition" for update 1.7 back on the old forums. It gives me a basic of requirements such as standing avatars should be no bigger than 20 blocks wide and 40 blocks tall, don't leave avatar inside's empty (Fill in with gold preferrably), etc. but I'm not sure if some requirements may of changed with update 1.8. I'm hoping someone can give me a link to a thread I may of missed on this forum explaining all of this or have a developer explain the requirements. Thank you.

Total Miner Discussion / Maximum Number of Books?
« on: April 28, 2013, 05:11:19 AM »
Here's the deal, whenever I try writing/opening a new empty book I get the message "The maximum number of books allowed in one map has been reached". I was alittle disturbed at first knowing that there's now a limit on books but I proceed anyways to find all copies of books and sell/toss them until I have only the orginals left in my world. Go to to write/open a book again and receive the same message. The thing is, I only have 3 books in my world now. Now I'm hoping that this is some glitch/bug thing that the game didn't register all those other books being sold/gone from the world forever but if we are only allowed to have 3 different books per world than this is pretty upsetting and I'm sure any others who use the book feature would agree. Still not understanding though how you could have "infinite" number of pages but still have a limit on books. Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope to get some answers from anyone.
