Gaming / The what game(s) are you playing? thread
« on: May 19, 2019, 08:04:54 PM »
Title says it all. What are you or have you been playing recently?

My most recent games are Dangerous Driving

If you're thinking, gee that looks like Burnout, that's because it's made by a bunch of the same guys that made Burnout and it's basically Burnout 3.5. If you like the good Burnout games (ie, everything besides Paradise) I recommend it.

Which led me into playing Burnout Revenge

Which led me into playing Burnout Dominator. Protip: don't play fast paced PS2 games on a 4k TV because your eyeballs will explode from the pain.

Site News and Information / Some changes
« on: May 19, 2019, 12:44:23 PM »
So you might have noticed there's now a little bit of ad silliness going on. If you haven't noticed, well then scroll down a little bit and/or disable adblock to see.

So you may be asking yourself right now "But I thought the forums were gonna go away, but now I'm seeing an ad for the discontinued white Xbox One S with free 2 day Prime™ shipping! What is going on in this crazy world?" Well the answer to that is I'm going to try to keep the forums around. But it'll require some changes to do that. Since the forums began they've earned exactly $0.00. But with TM no longer in active development, they're going to need to become self sustaining to stick around. My goal here isn't to become rich, or even make any money for myself. The goal is simply for them to generate enough revenue to pay for itself. That's it. I know ads suck. I have an irrational hatred of them and I don't like seeing them any more than anybody else, but it's a way to survive. If there's any money left over after paying the bills, I hope to throw it into a pot to use for more giveaways. My intention for the ads is to be as unobtrusive as possible, so I'm not going to spam 90 of them on a page. Any ad that wants to autoplay a video or make a bunch of irritating sounds, or give people seizures with a bunch of obnoxious flashing is not going to be welcomed here.

And now for some other things. Again, with TM no longer being developed, we're going to have to become more generalized. So expect to see things like the gaming section expanded, ie: Clans section and videos sections will no longer be TM specific. Tags for different platforms and such will be added, the only 1 thread per game rule goes away. Stuff like that. Fear not, none of the TM specific stuff is going away. All your old content will be sticking around, just possibly rearranged, ie: Bug reports will get archived. The downloads section isn't going away, all your TM mods will always be welcome here. And you'll still be free to post new TM related topics just as you've always been. And that way if there are some new developments in the TM world, we'll be right here to pick up right where we left off.

One thing that will be going away is the group section, nobody uses it so it's finally going to be mercy killed. Consider this fair warning, if you have anything in any of your groups that you're particularly concerned about, download it.

I'll probably be swapping to a new theme at some point, because I've been staring at this one for 6 years now.

I'll probably add some new awards to go with the new direction. They'll most likely be based on your activity levels, so people who don't post will be getting jack squat as far as that's concerned.

And that's about all I can think of for the moment. If you have questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, etc. feel free to post them below.

Site News and Information / Member tagging
« on: January 03, 2018, 01:14:59 AM »
You now have the ability to tag other users in your posts. Works just as you'd expect it to. Tag somebody and they get a notification that they were tagged in X topic. To tag somebody just @name them. Once you post the first few letters you should get a box popping up with member suggestions, like so

If you have new mentions, it will be displayed like this

The number of new mentions you have will be displayed on the main bar. Clicking it from the dropdown will give you a list.

Old mentions should fall off this list after 7 days. If for some strange reason you want an email to be sent to you whenever you get a new mention, you can enable it from there.

And if you're using the Tapatalk app, you'll receive push notifications when you've been tagged.

Don't abuse this. Nobody likes being randomly tagged just for laughs.

Contests / New Years Giveaway
« on: December 31, 2017, 02:08:01 PM »
For the new year we'll be giving out another big wad of games. 28 games in total. This will work like the prior big wad giveaways. For example, if there's 20 entries, everybody will get one game, and then the remaining 8 games will be given out through a random drawing. If there's 50 entries, 28 of those entries will win, and so on.

Onto the games, I'm not going to list them all, but here's some highlights.

This is a fantastic game, and it is seriously way better than any game about driving a crappy Russian truck around in the mud has any right to be.

No need to pick a number, just post something that says you want to enter.

The winners will be chosen on 1/7/2018

Only accounts made before 12/31/2017 with 100+ posts are eligible.

-Don't spam the topic with non-entry posts.

These are PC games, so you will need a Steam account to redeem them.

Site News and Information / Downloads section now open
« on: December 11, 2017, 09:25:24 PM »
I've opened up the downloads section, so that people can upload their worlds, or mods they've made.. or whatever else. Note, this section is for TM stuff only. So if you've made a Minecraft mod, that's fantastic, but don't upload it here, because it will get deleted.

Using the upload/download is simple. If you've ever uploaded or downloaded anything before, you pretty much know how it works, so I'll save the boring explanation. I have it limited to 32MB right now so that I can better gauge whatever impact it may have on our hosting.

There's 3 categories right now. Mods, worlds, and miscellaneous, for whatever I haven't anticipated needing its own category. It isn't for uploading screenshots or whatever. Stick with imgur for that. Things like custom textures would go there.

And I shouldn't really need to say this, but I will anyways. Don't upload malware of any sort. It will be deleted, you will be banned, and you will never be welcome back. Ever.

Site News and Information / Total Miner Forums now on tapatalk
« on: December 09, 2017, 04:53:08 PM »
I've installed tapatalk on the forums. It should be easier for everyone to use than the current app or a standard browser. As a bonus it's available on iOS as well as Android. And even Windows phone, which should be useful for all 6 people that have one of those.

What you'll need to do: obviously you'll want to install tapatalk. Pick your poison with the links below.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quoord.tapatalkpro.activity
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tapatalk-200-000-forums/id307880732?mt=8
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/tapatalk-classic/9wzdncrfhwnl

When you first run it, you'll see a search bar at the top. type in Total Miner, and you'll get something that looks like this.

Hit follow so that you don't have to constantly be searching for the same thing. Then you just click the link to get here, log in and you'll be able to do most everything that you can do on the website version. It'll looks something like this, which is basically the equivalent of hitting the recent posts.

There are some ads here and there, but they seem pretty unobtrusive. I'll have a look at the stats in a month or two and see if there's enough people using it to justify paying for the ad free upgrade.
