Title: Forum Awards
Post by: Holiday on February 06, 2014, 11:48:25 AM
I was wondering if the forum awards are bugged or am I reading it wrong? I should have die-hard the way it reads. I joined on May 03, 2013 and have 40 posts. Was I supposed to have the 25 before the end of the first month?
Thanks for your time.

As far as I know you have to have posted 25 times before the first month ended.

Awards aren't added automatically. It's all done by hand. And I'm not even close to smart enough to remember when people registered/got their posts/etc. qualifications, so everyone needs to let me know if they don't have one that they should

I see the award on there now. Thanks! I looked around the forum earlier. My page must have glitched earlier. I searched "awards" and "forum awards" I didn'tget any matches. I just did it again and now all kinds of options pop up. Must of had a hiccup. Again thanks.

You should have "die-hard". You had until May 12,2013 to register. You joined the 9th. Ask Bob nicely to award it to you.

That's just how the search engine for SMF works. If you're using the search while you're viewing say, the Fun House, it only searches that section, so you won't get the results you want, and so on for all the other sections. To search the forum as a whole you need to run the search from the main page

You joined "September 02, 2013, 12:53:04 AM" my time, most likely be different for others, haven't checked.
Veteran - Impossible. (Except for those who joined between 4/13/13-4/20/13)
Sheriff - Impossible
Robotic - Win the Robotic Avatar so possible
MotM - Become MotM so possible
Founder - Impossible. (Except for those who joined 4/12/13)
Die Hard - Impossible. (Except for those who joined 4/21/13-5/12/13)
Developer - Being a Developer, I can't exactly say impossible, as Craig might get new devs and such, so not answering, but very unlikely.
bob - Impossible.
Artists - Make a TP and get it in game or win a art contest.

So for you, you shouldn't have any, but you could always work towards Artist, MotM or Robotic Award if you really wanted one.

Not a good idea, i could make a channel and record it with a phone and get it? what qualifies as being "Youtube" :P and if you stop recording for awhile, would you loose it?
Alot to think about XD,
but i do think a badge to do with youtube would be nice, shows people who supports the game as far as advertising goes.

Maybe certain qualifications must be set. Such as:

-How many TM videos.
-How long you've been doing it.
-What type of TM videos (IE. Let's Play, Showcases, Random World Jumps etc...)

These are just some off of the top of my head.
Title: Re: Forum Awards

A youtube award is just not going to happen. It would require way too much of a time investment for me to sit and watch 2 hours or more of videos for each person requesting the award. I need to be able to identify if the award is deserved in 30 seconds.

Not to mention it's far too subjective, which will only end up with people moaning and complaining that so and so has the award, and they don't deserve it and such. Same goes for awards for who has the best idea topics, who has the best stories in the writers section, etc. Anything subjective is a no.

Ah that sucks

I'm glad it's not coming back, the like feature never gets abused but with rep, people were just getting down repped because of nothing, therefore showing people that he/she is a bad member which shouldn't happen.

Also, if there was a like reward "Reach a certain number of likes", than that's going to cause more "Hey, can people like this post [link]" and just more spam asking for likes etc. I'm not saying everyone is going to act like that, but can guarantee someone and more will do it.

Here's a way for the youtube badge to work. with this site you can track people youtube views/subs. eg: http://socialblade.com/youtube/user/itzlupo

You can say 100+ views per week for this badge. You can ask members to post a link to there socialblade and then all you need to do is click the link and check there channel traffic!

But that shows the hole channel, so you could upload 1 totalminer video a week but have 20 videos of other things to get your views,
There no many things we don't know and to many rules we would have to set, we would also have to check every video to make sure they comply with the rules, which takes a lot of time.

This is a tight community, i think someone would tell bob if a member wasnt uploading any TM videos.

He could always have a Media Team to do these checks for him?

Could work,
If you had a select few users who don't mind, i personally youtube "totalminer" everyday and change search to today so i can see any new videos.
But there is also the problem with
Quote from the bob:

Yeah but we can always limit the amount of people moaning by being as fair an UN bias as we can.
I like the idea of a youtube award as its a way to show our thanks for those who help suport the game. but as for the reasons mentioned already, its a bad idea.

Regular means weekly or more often, so only you and sometimes logan and sometimes snorlax would be eligible, and what happens if you stop recorded for awhile?
Its seems to be a case of "i can earn it so i want it"
as stated several times be others including bob, would not work well and to much hassel to watch through every video to make sure the content is what it should be.

Well I upload most of my content to the forums at least twice a week. I am not for or against the idea because I think the entire award base is worthless. Its just another way for people to say they're better than others. But like all of the awards there should be basic criteria. Or like people could vote to see if they think someone is worthy of earning it.

But you would need to vote every week, by thme giving an award for your channel it means they accept the content on it, and will have to check every video you make to make sure it does not contain things it shouldn't.
As bob said before, he is all for adding new awards but only if they are quick to give out and nor hard to check, this award would mean they will have to go through hours of totalminer videos. and then check every video that person makes,

To much hassle for alot of nothing.

Well what about innocent until proven guilty? Plenty of people build maps on TM with innapropiate content on them but people don't go and make sure that they get deleted. Like for instance, my videos are fine as they are, but if I were to cuss, and degrade certain people then I shouldn't be allowed. So you get the award for having a TM Channel. You keep the award until someone finds something inappropriate about your channel. That way you still earn it, and you keep your rep clean.

Same point as above, your post is exactly what i mean, it takes along time to check every video to make sure, bob does not want to sit there 30mins to an hour checking every ones channel and tm videos to make sure they have not done something wrong, bob has said he does not want one that needs to be maintained. just 1 time give and also does not take long to check if they have requirements, i would love a Video award as will show that the staff appreciate the advertising, but to much time.

Clerical has done a good job reminding everyone of why a youtube award won't happen. Let's move on with other ideas instead of trying to think of a work around. It is just creating far too much effort for no real gain. Next idea.

Also keep this in mind:

here is an idea since most of you know I hosted the Robotic competition. Why not have a robotic host award, because I'm sure not going to be the last host, I think. Another reason for this award is for the hosts that completed the competition and doesn't drop out at last min.

I was more talking about the robo award will be robo host just so people find it easier to find who to talk to (This is for new people mostly). If the host is no longer host it will turn in to just robo then.

In this case i don't mind it, while hosting it will say something different, and after the contest it will trade it out for robo one.
I like it. and makes it easier for new people to find out who to PM. not many robo hosts are active though, which can be a problem some times.

Yes that can be a problem thats why I think robo hosts should be on at least once a day to check messages. I mean it only takes a second to log on and give some help to people.

That's why the host should be chosen carefully. There are a lot of people on the forums now that are dedicated to the forum. Should always be handed down to someone with the passion to record because its a big hassle to organize everything.
Title: Re: Forum Awards
Post by: YoungSykotic182 on February 17, 2014, 01:46:31 PM
I see that as more of an award that only the current host would have. This would be done to prevent confusion on who is the current host for a contest and who has been a host.

While the contest is underway the host would have the "Robo Host" award. Once the contest is over he would default to the "Robo" award and the next host would receive the host award. This makes it easier for players to know exactly who to talk to.

Now there could also just be two awards, one for previous hosts and one for current hosts, or there could be a member group similar to Miner of the Month. The current host would be given the Host group while all others would have the award.

Or just give the host award to any and all hosts and let you guys deal with the confusion and be done with it.  ^-^

A contest host award would be pretty convenient, but if not executed well it could add to the confusion. There would have to be an obvious distinction between past and present hosts; if not just make the award temporary. It sounds like the robo-host title that changes to a standard robo award could get the job done. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize there definitely should not be a permanent award for hosting. That would only encourage people to do it just to be rewarded.

Yeah, it would only appear while the contest is being hosted, then once it is over it will change to the robotic one as you may/would of earn it.

This topic should now be closed. Any and all discussion about new awards should be posted on the topic Epiik started.
