I think there should be a easier way to get food like farming.
There could be...

Blueberry plants - Heals 10 health/Plant is fully grown in 2 days in TMF/Blueberries grow in half a day in TMF/

Strawberry plant  - Strawberry heals 10 health/Grown in 2 days or TMF/Strawberries grow in half a day after the plant is fully grown

Gr@pe vines - Hangs from blocks not planted straight on the ground/Heals 20 health/Also fully grown in 2 days in TMF/Gr@pes grow in one whole day after the gr@pe vines are grown.


If these ideas are good I might come up with more plants that can be planted like

Turnips,carrots,watermelons,potatos,etc.

I like the idea of a 'farm', but not the exotic stuff. 

IF farms were added, should food take on more importance?  Should you have to farm to stay alive?

I'm not wild about the exotic stuff (like blueberries or strawberries) to grow though.  It should be basic food stuffs like corn or rice.  (Hummm, corn… ethanol!  Sorry, went off on a tangent there.)  Now we're talking cornmeal for cornbread, or rice cakes, to bake.

I agree with the stig :P farming should start simple, maybe introduce more exotic stuff later and there has been many suggestions for farming in the past, all varying in different ways. It would be nice to have a vote one time if let's say are favourite crop we like to see in the game.

would be good to see farming being seasonal & shifting shop prices reflect that. adds more tact and value for trading.

a good gr@pevine could be climbable, like the scaffold except you can hang on underneath too. yey, i can see my house from here! (hold on..who you get it from!?:p)

whats wrong with strawberries and blueberries they arent exotic they are used in everyday life and what would be the point in not adding something new all youll have to do is get the seed plant it and let it grow not so hard

I think any type of plant like a grápe or wheat would be fine by my standards.

maybe get cows to make cheese? just to have cheese in the game?
or yes, corn, strawberries, soy (maybe not), wheat, blueberries, rasberries, wild berries, poison berries, other things too...not just for farming but wild plants as well.

When I go to my cousins house in Maine we pick blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries so none of those are exotic.

Farming is about food. Farming at the very least must be able to grow crops which can be used to make staple foods. More non staple crops could be added later but the staples must be done first.

Staple Foods:
Bread <- Flour <- Wheat/Rye/Maize. So we'd need to be able to farm Wheat and/or Rye and/or Maize.
Sugar <- Sugar Cane - We'd need to be able to farm sugar.

At least one versatile vegetable or fruit. Tomatoes are a versatile fruit.
At least one spice. Salt is a good spice because it doesn't need to be farmed, could just be generated in the world like any ore/mineral block.

With flour and water or milk you could make dough. With dough you could make bread, cake, pizza bases.
With milk you could make butter and cheese.
With dough, cheese and tomatoes you could make pizzas.

You can make a lot of different food from just basic ingredients. So they're what should be added first.

okI was going to spend a long time on this topic but ill have to toss another post later gtg to work buyt for now.IN the current TM:F game there 3 types of food I think they are
 
Fish raw & cooked
duck meat raw & cooked
Lamb raw & cooked

the mob spawn block has

Duck
sheep
cow


I know fish was added first in the starting of totalminer and why the fishing poll was put on hold because no animation for it yet.
