Title: Flashing Screen
Post by: Muffin on July 27, 2016, 01:47:47 AM
Was wondering if this ever happens to anyone else. It sometimes happens when you scroll back up to the top of the page and can be fixed by reloading or leaving the page. It isn't caused by the stylish plugin as it was happening well before then and I haven't ever seen it on any other website.

That's not normal.

Some things to try and figure out why it's doing that

-Disable all plugins and addons. If this fixes it, re-enable them one at a time until it happens again. Then you'll know what's causing it

-Download a different browser and run it with just a bare bones installation. If this fixes it, you'll know that the problem is somewhere in your normal browser install

-Try the site out on a different machine altogether. Could be some sort of malware on your current machine.

-Check to make sure all your drivers (especially GPU drivers) are up to date. If they aren't find their website and download their most recent stable (not beta) versions

It's quite hard to catch as it happens very rarely. I believe that last time it happened to me was in May. I haven't found a 100% way to do it yet so it's pretty hard to test what causes it.

I've never seen it happen myself and I've used the forums on tons of different machines/browsers/OSs/etc. If you figure out a way to reproduce it let me know

This has happened a few times on my phone if it's overheated. This also used to happen to me all the time when I used internet explorer on xbox 360 to browse the forums. It seemed to happen after visiting intensive sites or viewing large GIFs, then re-visiting the forums multiple times.

For example, purely example, I'm viewing GIFs of some non-descript stuff on a non-descript website. I hear someone about to come in room, so I quickly change websites to the forums, and then change back to the other website when they leave my room. This may happen multiple times in a row.

That sounds feasible for sure. Low spec machines like the 360/phones/netbooks and so on have really limited caching ability, so when they've reached it they won't be running optimally. There's not really much I can do about that, as the forums are about as low spec friendly as they could possibly get. I'd suggest some more RAM
