Title: The creative side of Particles
Post by: Dryym on October 12, 2015, 01:57:35 PM
Show off some creative things you've done with particles.

This hologram took 32 particle emitters and took about 10 minutes to do. Not much, But it'll kick this topic off.

My pictures are often too big in data size, but i figured out how to turn a chimney particle into a huge tornado.

You'll need to upload them to an image hosting site before posting them here. Some examples are Tinypic and Photobucket.

It's amazing what others can make using the particle emitter. I've barley tinkered around with this feature and miners are already coming up with holograms, small objects "cups/bottles", and other wild-wacky things !!! Lately I've messed around with the particle feature and I made a neat effect that sparked my idea  ::). I really want to showcase this effect *hint hint  ;)

TM video possibly in development ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I'm excited to see what you've come up with. I didn't even know this topic was getting attention still so I posted my stuff in the other one. XD

Was messing around with an idea a few days ago. It didn't come out exactly right, but I still think it's pretty cool. It's a car. Kinda.

Warning: Phone Video Ahead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgdXXkb-Zlc&feature=youtu.be

It gets a little wonky when trying to generate the particles diagonally, but other then that it worked okay. Because I'm using the particle command, the car can't be too detailed since you can't put decimals in coordinates.

Very cool.

Because I'm using the particle command, the car can't be too detailed since you can't put decimals in coordinates.
In 2.42, player/view relative coords for particles don't snap to the coord (block) center, so it should be a lot smoother.

if ud like i could copy or redo the script onto a map of yours
also the only bad thing is no matter how high, even with zones and gravity you still die w combat on,unless you dont care about adding a huge hole w water on the bottom where you transport to,but that looks really ugly imo

i also have other ideas i could do but those would require too much effort.maybe create trafic via cars but idk if ud be able to get that many cars if u were to actually wanna take the time

otherwise if you have any ideas like that then im open to brainstorming a system

That's really cool Nasty. You could try and make each letter appear at once and then all together. Maybe speed it up a bit. You don't have to though, it's amazing as it is!

Nice, I like how you arranged them like that. I'm trying to make particles that look like a lightning bolt, then put it with Tater's lightning script.

This is already a hard task because I know very little about scripting.   /-:

Unless he doesn't care about particle useage, then a quicker emit freq would prob use up a lot of the particles

Yeah, just edit all of them to make them backwards, then edit the coordinates after that, you can go as far as to make him move smoothly, move .1 instead of jumping ahead a block.

I would have animated the bar more. A single state change is boring.

You should have used vectors like I did with my analog clock.

That's the coolest thing, dryym, you should get the particle and animate it, I wanna see that.

vectors?what do you mean

Make like a really simple 3-10 line script with 1-3 particles, and show me how it'd look or how you would make it so I can get an idea of how I'd use it on this?

Uh, 3-10 lines isn't happening.

Here's my analog clock It uses vectors to animate the hands.

Here's my analog clock It uses vectors to animate the hands.
Well in a quick summary what does it specifically do/what's its purpose/intention?

A vector is a set of values that have a direction and a length (Magnitude.)

In this case, You only need a 2D vector with an X and Y value.
Basically, You'd take the angle that you want the bar to be at, Convert that to a vector, And that would be the coordinate offset of the particle. To make more particles in the same line, You just need to multiply each value of the vector by the distance you want it out from the origin.

ok so i made your script and got it to work and its cool

but if youre going by my guard, what type of var would i use if im making it animate from point a to b(up position-down)
theres like 10 or 20 different kinds and idk really anything about var scripts for the most part,so as far as knowing what to actually do,im clueless
