What if total miner let the players choose which songs play in their maps to better set the mood.

Maby in the future the ambient sound block will be just a sound block, and have all of the sound files on TM including the songs, then could just place them anywhere.

I would love to see that, but what about as far as making a playlist of background music goes?

Maybe I'm not being clear...

The ability to take the music that is already in the game, just setting which ones play in the background.

This is an old topic but instead of making a new one I thought I'd just add on to this.

I feel I have mentioned this idea in the past before to Craig so forgive me if I sound redundant. I felt like I should make a post just to get the idea out there. And If modding game files will do this just fine, then scrap the idea.

Sounds changes seem to be a common topic.

I for one feel the soundtrack should be, on most world types, an optional selection on or off for the world. Without turning the "soundtrack" volume bar down all the way. Then the game songs should be added/ replaced with unique ones to this game. (There probably shouldn't be free packet sounds used in other games at this point. You want a sound to remind them of your game.) Then the song list should be added to the ambient sound block list in separate tracks. (This way themed builds can have music that fits the build. I.E.: island steel pan music for a beach themed build. Music/Sounds are a huge part of creating an atmosphere.) The only downside is that the soundtrack wouldn't play as normal for new players who don't know about this. So that's why I'm suggesting it to be optional. Starting with it default set to 3 hour loop ON for the world.

It would be very nice if modding allows for imported songs and music.

Could allow nice medieval music for RPGs, dungeon music, boss themes, etc. Not to mention every nobuo uematsu song would do nicely. Technically, since mods aren't considered to be in game, seeing as they are player added, any copywrited music should be fine to add.

...right?

If it does work this way, I fear world hopping, when people are playing really bad music...

Mods exist in the grey area of the law, but by and large as long as they aren't being sold, they won't delve into copyright infringement.

Also, the argument about people playing bad music kind of applies to everything. People can build bad worlds, make bad NPCs, and bad textures. It's just a matter of finding the worlds that don't have that, and reporting players who participate in that kind of stuff.

Why would you report someone for having a different taste in music to you? XD

When I wrote this initially I used pornographic/explicit instead of bad. It came across the wrong way the second time around haha. I won't report someone for having a different taste in music lol

Well, not so much of a different music style, but just super loud audio files, static, old TV broadcast screeches, them cursing non stop.

Perhaps me using "music" was a bad choice...

I would still hate worlds that have tons of mandatory rap.

...which gives me an idea...

Maybe it could be incorporated with the menu/input scripts for radio stations on a world.

Not to mention, you can record your own audio files and use them for NPCs, tutorial areas, lore, etc...

I have plans on creating a world dedicated to rap music, just for you, tater.

So you are saying that you would report me for making realistic brothels in my fantasy world? It's all in the sake of historical accuracy and immersion, Trust me. ::)
