Adult Discussion / Re: Agykoo
« on: September 21, 2020, 03:58:11 AM »
Welcome back, Agykoo!

Unfortunately, I have joined the forums after your departure so I never had a chance to fully know you. Even though I haven't been able to know you, many people here did. They asked where have you been, what happened to you etc... And seeing them worrying about you made me worry about you too.

Spoiler for Hidden Content:

Hmmm good memories. I wonder if Agykoo is still around?  :D
This one are one of the bunch of posts on the discord server and on the forums. As you can see a lot of members missed you and they were wondering what happened to you.

Anyway, seeing you back has put a smile in my face. Seeing old members returning always puts a smile in my face. Not only because they come back but also because you can see that people still remembers this game and the community behind it. They still have fond memories about it and share those memories with others.

Nevertheless, I'm happy that you are doing fine now even if it sucked before. I wish you the best in your life.

Also, I'm always online on the discord server so, if you need any help, feel free to dm me  :D

Hi everyone!

I'm stuck with Linux for the next couple of months and was wondering if there is a way to run Total Miner. The game is not yet supported on Linux so you can't normally run the game on steam (you can't even install it). But, if you use Steamplay in the game's properties and Proton 5.0, you can actually install the game but you can't run it, it will crash on startup. If you get it running in someway with wine, the game won't start because of steam_api.dll not running.

I followed this post from @Justyn to try and get Steam windows running via wine and then installing Total Miner there to get it working but with the recent versions of wine, Steam is completely broken

So, this method wasn't possible anymore. But what if we use Proton to make it run? I said that running the game with Steamplay active and with Proton doesn't work but there's a workaround

How to run Total Miner: Step by step Guide
  • Get winetricks, it's needed to install dotnet40 and xna40.
  • After installing winetricks, start steam, go to your games and click properties on Total Miner. After that, check the box where it says "Force the use of a specific Steam Play Compatibility Tool" and then set Proton 5.0.8 (as of writing)
  • Now run the game atleast one time, the game wont run and it will stop automatically. This step is needed since proton has to create folders for the game
  • After that, install Protontricks
  • Then, open up terminal, type "protontricks 347000 dotnet40 xna40". Some wizards will open up, follow through them and install .net and xna. It will take sometime
  • After it has completed, run the game with steam. It should start after 1 to 2 minutes

Voilą! You got the game running

BEWARE that the game could crash and could also not run perfectly or not run at all. I played it a bunch and it's playable 100% for me, didn't get any crashes yet. The game runs slower than in windows but that's because of my laptop that is garbage

This method could work for some games that are still stuck on xna.

Also, when the update comes out, the game might run on linux without using proton because of monogame.

Anyway, I hope you find this post helpful! If you have any questions or errors, feel free to post them here. I'm going to try and help you (even though I'm a linux noob)

EDIT: I found out that signs are broken, no text appears even if you replace the sign and retype the text again. This is the only bug that I have found so far after playing for 5 hours with steamplay. But other than that the game is playable 100%

Ideas / Re: Resolution values for Variables
« on: January 16, 2020, 02:13:54 PM »
I don't think there's a way yet for the game to detect and record screen resolution client side.
Right now there Isn't a way to detect the resolution of a player but you could make a menu where the player can choose from different resolutions and set the huds using that menu.
Anyway this is useless since (as @Hayden has posted) this is in the works

Total Miner Discussion / [Game] Re: Make total miner open source
« on: April 17, 2019, 08:19:18 AM »
i have high doubts the Epic Games store would also want to pick up Total Miner if it went open source. just saying

Why are you bringing Epic Games into this? So random... randomness like this annoys me, seriously what made you think that anyone desires for Total Miner to be picked up by Epic Games. For the longest time, the community has simply wanted access to the game on PC and multiplayer, where did you get the idea that mentioning Epic Games would help any of us, or even think it's worthy of mentioning, seriously explain the thought process behind why you mentioned Epic Games. I really want to know why, because it is one of the most random things you could have brought up. Explain, or pay for your crimes against ... and it's people.
its a joke, calm down.
So you posted a joke in a particular serious topic and then you pretend people to calm down because you were joking.

Of course they don't. Even if they get the joke, they would still get annoyed (I did) because you posted something so random in a thread where everyone is serious.

If I were you, I would've thought 2/3 times before posting a joke in a particular topic to avoid any arguments and keeping it serious.

Before replying to this thread please:

  • Watch the entire video through, dont comment halfway through cause I explain what I'm thinking as I go.
  • None of this is meant as disrespect or to cause drama, but it needs to be said.

The first 8 minutes really touched me. I grew up with this game aswell, met so many great people and interacting with the community has made me learn english so well that my friends always ask me how am I so skilled with it.

The other day I looked at my old posts and felt ashamed but also felt the nostalgia. The nostalgia of those great people who right now are not with us and the great moments I have passed with the community.

This game really has a spot in my heart and to see the community being silent makes me sad. Sad about people leaving the game because it hasn't gotten an update in a while.

The video here explains well the situation and I agree with almost everything you said.

Craig needs to be more active with the community, like you said. He has to be more active on the forum and on discord.

@Craig with this I don't mean you have to code every single day on this game. If you keep being this silent, people will start to assume that you stopped caring about this game. I know that you care and I feel optimistic that with multiplayer the community will grow once again and be more active as ever but please, don't keep us in this state of silence.

You made my childhood and I'm truly grateful for that. Thank you.
