Title: Wappendale (Modern Economy RPG) [with pictures!!!]
Post by: casual onion on December 01, 2017, 09:57:33 PM
Welcome to Wappendale!
Basically an accurate representation of life in a small part of Yorkshire - a county in England. Yes, I'm being that specific.

Introduction
Hello everyone and welcome to my Wappendale map on PC. Weird name right? Let me explain.

In the beginning there were dinosaurs. Wappen is a German word meaning coat of arms. Dale is a northern English word meaning valley. Yeah, "coat of arms valley" or "Valley of the coat of arms!" Here's some more famous Wappen's...

~ Wappenstocke: A viking word meaning "Administrative District"
~ Wappenham: A linear village (built in a line) in Northamptonshire, England
~ Wappendale: A since demolished club in Sheffield, England.

For this map, I'd like to take the best bits (and worst depending on your view), of my Xbox cities and combine them into MEGACITY3000 (or untitled). I'll get more into that in the features section further down. So, without further notice - lets get into the features...

Features

Properties
A bit more about them seems as these are my favourite things to build in maps! I want to make the system a bit fairer than in Huttondale and previous maps, so I've done some radical-ish changes.

Restrictions?

Variations
So, in most of my maps, the average house price is an un-reasonable 50-60,000 Aires (That'll be the currency for nostalgia's sake). So, i've planned to have an emphasis on smaller houses to get people onto the property ladder. Ooh, i might even have mortgages and bills to pay ;) Here is my incredibly high tech system...

Villages

Release Date
Mid January 2018 hopefully.

YouTube Videos
I'm going to try and record 5 to 10 minute long videos for the Dig Deeper Community YouTube Channel showing updates, which i'll probably link here weekly instead of rambly post telling you that i added dacite to a mine.

The End...
That's all for now. Please leave suggestions here or ping me on the Total Miner Discord. See you soon!

Is this map completely terraformed or just on a basic grasslands map? I sure would love to see it built by hand!

You've got more chance of seeing a three-legged emu than me doing a decent terraforming!

I see it as an unnecessary stress when we have customisable terrain (I hope)

Consults list of things more unlikely than me terraforming a flat land map.

I really enjoyed BayStone so this should be a blast. From the pictures i've seen on discord it looks great. I'll be sure to look out for this when PC multi-player is realeased. (If i'm not sweating my own map that is)

It's actually really rewarding if you terraform your map, it might be tiresome but looking at it when its done is so uplifting.

Looking forward to seeing you but where's these discord pictures you speak of?

I'll see what I can do. I'll be terraforming anyway as I want to build on the hillside as  well as on top.

Can i record/stream like i did in baystone and huttondale?

Of course you can. I'll be making videos for YouTube and connection permitting (new WiFi coming soon!) I might stream too if you aren't on.

In other news, I'm basing the shopping centre on this:

https://youtu.be/J7Z7VxhC7o8

And this is where JG and Omega along with player owned shops and offices will be located.

So the shopping centre is the benchmark for the whole town? or are you turning it into a huge town hall?

Nope, the shopping centre will be near the main town but not in it. For example,  the main town will be on a hill and the shopping centre will be in a valley at the bottom of the hill.

Here it is! It's of the new map. I'll probably not stick to it precisely but it gives you an idea.

*Check Discord because Imgur and Photobucket are useless*

I've also tested new house designs in Huttondale as it's a similar environment. Looks good.

I've been thinking, as each building, property, house etc. is individually Scripted then I figured it'd be nice to have houses in prime location cost more, cos that's how it is in the real world. Could anyone think of any other reason why a property might cost more (or less?)

There'll be no desert them pal, it's set in Yorkshire not Morocco.

Howdy.

Pc is released now *woop* and I've already started working on Wappendale. Oh yeah, that's the name I've chosen. You can see my progress in the building chat on discord.

Anyway, whilst I was waiting for PC to literally drop I put together an official 1,920 word document with everything I need to make this a really rather good map. I'm going to copy in some extracts and highlight the main bits. Any questions then ask away lel.

Buildings - Most of this is important
1.1: Building and Properties
In the map, there will be a variety of buildings. Almost all buildings will be purchasable by the player and these are outlined below:
•   Apartments
•   Bungalows
•   Houses
•   Offices
•   Shops
Apartments are most likely to be purchased by first time buyers in the map. There will be a greater proportion of these in Wappenstocke, the main town.
Barns are in remote areas, such as perched on a hill. The general rule of thumb is the price of a barn is 50% of the sell price if it was complete. There are however some variations.

•   10% extra off if blocks missing (somewhat in disrepair)
•   25% extra off if highly damaged e.g. floors and major parts of building missing.
Bungalows are on larger plots and will be around the 25,000 to 75,000 Aires range. They will typically have one or two rooms. They will be in smaller villages are there is more space.
Houses are the most common type of property in the map. These will be in a variety of designs and will encompass terraced, semi-detached, link-detached and detached houses. Prices will go up to 500,000 Aires.
Offices are used for those buying a block of properties. You must own an office to purchase several properties at once. A block is essentially a street or apartment building. The owner (Landlord) owns all properties in their block although they must inform their tenants if they want to make any changes via message. This is to stop them knocking everything down (they can build around if necessary). There will be a rank system for offices which will be based on how much the properties you own are worth. The more you own, the better and bigger the office available to you. Offices in prime locations will be out of reach for beginners. Individual properties are not included, it only counts on properties you don’t own or are neighbouring and vacant. Offices are used to hold earnings from selling properties. Property owners who live in a tenanted block don’t have to pay any extra money but it will inform them the owner of the block and that they may make alterations to the property and the required period of notice a tenant must give before any work is done (one full day) when they buy the property.
Shops are available when you reach Rank Manager. You’ll need to visit the company shop to buy a block or item shop for 10,000 Aires. This will then be economized and placed in either a shop building or the players house, if they want to convert it into a shop. Like offices, a rank system will operate. Basically, it will take into consideration the income taken from the shop. The more your shops are worth, the bigger the shop you can buy. All shops will have a small office to hold earnings which will be added to a locked chest when a product is bought.
Restrictions are a thing of the past at in this map, you will be able to purchase neighbouring properties and knock them into one, if nobody lives there! The cost of doing this is the price of the wall in between + 25%labour because I’ll have to do some scripting. You will not be able to buy neighbouring apartments.
Variations on prices will also apply on other property types. These are as follows:

•   Apartments – If above ground level add 10% to price, if below then subtract 10%.
•   Semi-Detached houses add 5% to price
•   Link-Detached houses add 10% to price
•   Detached houses add 15% to price
•   Tenanted Blocks – Subtract 10% from price.

Gambling
Just like in previous maps, players will be able to use the casino and lottery to win money. The odds and prizes are as follows:

Casino Gamble 1 Aire – Odds are 1 in 500
Casino Gamble 5 Aires – Odds are 1 in 1,000
Casino Gamble 10 Aires – Odds are 1 in 1,500
Lottery 2 Aires – Odds are 1 in 750
Income from lottery and casino is added to lottery jackpot.

Jobs
In the map, you will be able to work at a variety of companies. These will include the admin companies and the supplies shops (e.g. blacksmiths). You will be paid using a paycheck based on whatever you make. I also plan to make it so you can work for players. The products made will be added to a stocklist. The player will earn 50% of the products’ sell price at the shop. Products in high demand (less than 10 in stock – not working in first week of hosting) will give the player the full sell Price

Mining
Unlike other maps, the mine’s will be indoors. They will only be accessible to players living in that village except for the public mine. Each village will have different level blocks in them. This will influence the decision people take when deciding where to live. Wappenstocke for example will have high ranking blocks whereas a remote village will have low demand blocks. All mines will have the main base blocks (clay, coal, sandstone etc.) If you don’t live in that village but want to enter, it will cost the total value of the blocks – 50%. Residents will get a code when they buy a property in that village.

Ranks (yes - plural)
As with the other maps I have made, Wappenstocke will have a rank system which will limit what you are able to do. These are as follows:
Apprentice: 100 Aires – Wood Tools
Trainee: 500 Aires – Iron Tools
Employee: 1,000 Aires – Steel Tools
Clerk: 5,000 Aires – Greenstone Tools
Team Leader: 10,000 Aires – Diamond Tools
Supervisor: 50,000 Aires -  Ruby Tools
Manager: 100,000 Aires – Shop
CEO: 500,000 Aires – Titanium Tools
VIP: 1,000,000 Aires – Greenstone Hammer

And the ranks for shops are as follows:
Start Up: 1,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 10,000 Aires
Home Grown: 5,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 25,000 Aires
Growing Business: 10,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 50,000 Aires
Well Known Brand: 50,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 75,000 Aires
Market Leader: 100,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 100,000 Aires
No Competition: 500,000 Aires -  Buy premises worth up to 250,000 Aires
Monopoly: 1,000,000 Aires – Buy any premises

And the ranks for offices are as follows:
Side Hobby: 1,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 10,000 Aires
Contractor: 5,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 25,000 Aires
Part Time Developer: 10,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 50,000 Aires
Bunch of Builders: 50,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 75,000 Aires
Full Time Developer: 100,000 Aires – Buy premises worth up to 100,000 Aires
Councillor: 500,000 Aires -  Buy premises worth up to 250,000 Aires
Mayor: 1,000,000 Aires – Buy any premises

Updated the OP.

Howdy.

I've been working in Wappenstocke today building the downtown area which will be shops, offices and apartments in Tower blocks.  Basically, to meet the demand for cheap housing when multiplayer is released next year.

I've also attached a few images to ponder over.

Imgur: Difficult to use and full of cringe worthy memes
Google Photos: My name is shown.
Tinypic: Littered with ads that will probably give you a virus.

Fun fun fun!

It's terrible. Takes ages to upload a photo and I can't see a single direct link generator.

It takes me like 10 seconds, though I think just adding a link from the discord image file works too idk

I suppose it'll have to do for now.

Otherwise, Happy New Year. Hopefully you'll be able to visit Wappendale soon :)

Thanks! I've enlisted the help of Gordinio to terraform a VIP village. Turned out great actually, I'm now working on the landmark building. It'll house 80 Apartments, 8 shops and many offices....

*Will update with photos**

I would love to see images here rather than having to go to a discord. Sounds like an interesting world tho! Would love to see it!

I'd love to post them here! Having a bit of trouble finding a decent hosting site at the moment. I'll keep working on it.

⚠ Updates haha ⚠
I've worked on the pricing system, well the standard one. Since Baystone in 2015, I've used the 100 Aires per Square block (area you can build in between outside walls of a building) on all buildings, regardless of use. As always with me, it's time to shake it up. So,  the average UK house price is £2,200 roughly so because I'm considerate I've divided it by ten. The figures for shops,  offices and factories (essentially the same as shops) are from an official Northern Irish PDF file and I just took average price per m2 so they are...

Shops: 175 Aires
Offices: 70 Aires
Factories: 30 Aires

(Aires is currency in my maps FYI).

I'm trying to make this as realistic but not incredibly difficult to make money. (He says after raising house prices...)

Ciao!

Finally! Here are some many photos of my map, all nicely organised. Enjoy!

Overlooking Wappenstocke. Note the derelict barn on left.

Back to Back houses over looked by the mansions.

Omega, Wappenstocke from the upper garden.

Example apartment size in Wappen Plaza.

JG Wappenstocke rear entrance.

Not much inside JG yet.

Nice view from inside main entrance though.

Main JG Wappenstocke entrance, between market cross and tunnel to shopping area.

Back to back housing. Still not sure on these.

Most of Wappenstocke from above. Note how absolutely massive Wappen Plaza is, will get bigger too when I take the skyscraper down.

View from a house at the top of Mill Hill.

Mill Hill Stores. Will probably become the points shop.

View from a house on the east side of Wappenstocke.

Gordinio wanted me to add these in. If done right, they could have nice views. I need to finish the garden wall...

Wappen Plaza from above. It's massive.

Wappen Plaza from the square. I'll probably put the mine here.

Examples of the size of the offices. Also,  Omega and Upper Garden.

I'd say it's coming along nicely. I need to build a town hall now for spawn, ranks and tax  ;)

Ciao!

I'm going to build roads and place them in as needed. It's so much easier than building them separately.

Thank you. :)

I've decided I don't like the name Wappendale so I'll let you choose the name from the list below.

Putting this map on the backburner whilst I work on other projects. I'm not retiring the map, just working on it a bit less often.

Honestly, it's taken 15 minutes to word this correctly.
