Another Brilliant Idea by Epic!
« on: July 05, 2013, 04:23:46 AM »
So Total Miner has Pickaxes,Shovels,Hatchets,Swords,Shields, etc. right.Well to be honest a-lot a those items are expensive. To get a decent Pickaxe it is 3000 something gold !Total Miner should have a  repair brick. Basically the Repair Brick would be used to help preserve a players item.It would to keep things fair and relevant cost 1000 gold to use.Crafted From 2 Iron Bars(I) 2 Steel Bars(S) 4 Granite(G) EMPTY(x)
Example:
 (G) (S) (G)
 (I)  (X)  (I)
 (G) (S) (G)
It would come in handy for players who have enough money to buy a pickaxes but who dont have enough to buy another when its broke. This would really help players playing Legendary on Survival and DigDeep. Please Take this into Consideration  /rb ^-^ ^-^ ^-^ /rb

Not a new idea.  I found this using Search:  http://totalminerforums.net/index.php?topic=591.msg7377#msg7377

As I said in that thread: "3. Repair system.  Six of one, half dozen of another.  IF the tool or weapon's effectiveness degraded with use, I can see 'repairing' it, but it doesn't, so here's no reason to spend half the cost of a new one to repair a perfectly good one when it's only half used up."

EDIT: I have a question about play balance cause I'm a little confused about how it would work.  You say it costs $1000 to use, but shouldn't  the cost to repair the item should be in proportion to how much the item costs?  For instance, if it costs $1000 to repair a ($3000) steel pickaxe from ⅔ to full strength, should it cost the same ($1000) to bring a ($25,000) diamond pickaxe back up?  Thanks for showing us how you'd craft it, but how much does this 'repair' block cost if you were to buy it, and how many times will it work (or will it work forever as long as you keep throwing money at it)?

All I'm saying is I'm not against a 'repair block', as long as it doesn't unbalance the strategic decision of repairing vs wearing the old one out and using a new one.

@Geneo the cost of it is 1000 gold to buy from the block shop.I forgot to add that it would cost half the amount of what ever item you place in to restore.

Thanks for clearing that up.

But I'm not wild about costing-half-the-item's-cost-to-restore-it thing.  I have no problem with this IF the tool/weapon is half used up.  (Say it costs $12,000 to repair a $24,000 diamond pickaxe that's half used up.)

However, the way you've worded this is it costs a flat $12,000 to repair the pickaxe- no matter how little or much of it is used up.  On one hand, getting a new diamond pickaxe for $12,000 when it's 90% used up (What a bargain!  I'll do that all day!)- or getting screwed if it's only 30% used up.  That's what I was saying about "play balance".

I think it should be:
Cost To Repair = New Cost X Percentage Used Up.

So, (using our diamond pickaxe as an example), 90% used costs you $21,600 to 'repair' it, 30% used costs you $7,200.  To me this seems more 'fair', and it will still let you get a "new" pickaxe for less than the cost of a new one…. what you were after in the first place.

edit: corrected price of diamond pickaxe.

i personally think there should be a weapon upgrade system that uses a different currency, and you can also use that currency to repair weapons or rename them. it would be useful in rpg maps to have unique quest rewards.
