A Sci-fi texture pack (yet to be named)
« on: May 09, 2014, 11:23:55 AM »
Hello and thank you for reading

I'm planning to make a SD texture pack that is Sci-fi themed, I am yet to name it or design it but I will post my ideas and suggestions and hopefully images of block and items designs.

However Production will be slow and may require suggestions to help its progress. So posting your suggestions, tips and advice will be appreciated. I'm new to this and will need some help so bare with me.

Thanks Tom.

Ideas
Spoiler for Hidden Content:
Switches - will be designed to look like touch screen control panels often seen in sci-fi movies.
Armour sets - one would be designed to look similar to that of the Astronaut/Cosmonaut.
Trap door default texture- will look like an air vent grill.
Metal walkway
Steel floor panel.
White or light grey wall panel.
Floor Lighting strip block.
Uranium- textured like a uranium rod found in reactors.
Connector- block textured to look like a connector of pipe will match with cylinder.
Book- will look like a tablet computer.
Button- will look like a finger or hand print scanner.

I'm not using proper software yet but I had a play around on Paint and made a steel floor design.

I have never made a texture pack before, I think it will be better to start with SD before attempting an HD. This is still in planning at current.

So for a sci-fi texture pack, here are my recommendations/suggestions:

If you make it so that your blocks/plants look like they are from another planet, don't go overboard. They should look realistic, but at the same time futuristic.

Do something interesting with Cherry Metal and Steel Plating. Cherry Metal in particular doesn't ever get used because it doesn't really blend with any other blocks. And steel plating looks too unrealistic in the Original HD texture packs. Rupture HD did a good job with it.

Basalt, should have small craters in it... like reminiscent of the surface of a moon. That would be frickin awesome.

Thank for the suggestions, I plan to make crops and possibly flowers looks alien. Employing good use of purple and orange. I have ideas for Steel Plating but as for cherry metal there are no current plans.

HD Texture packs are very difficult to get in the game.
would hate for someone to spend months on one for it to get rejected.
especially if its your first texture pack.

Wish you the best of luck tom and looking forward to seeing some pictures.

I remember there being a sci fi texture pack, it was before the big update, and i loved it so much, but i dont remember what it was called, the water even had an oily texture to it, does anyone remember it?

I like where you are going with this, but here is what I would recommend. Try doing a darker Sci-Fi theme, like a Science Fiction version of Rupture HD. Darker lines, shading, dark metals, etc. Could make use for some cool Space Horror Survival maps, or Futuristic Apocalyptic worlds, etc. Don't worry, you'll do great on this. Best of luck, Tom! /sage
