Movies, TV, Music, Sports, Etc. / [Music] Friends Record Company
« on: July 02, 2018, 11:12:11 AM »
Hey Everyone!

My brother and I have been working with our friend Dave as he has made his own record company. He's in artist that does anything from country to rock and now to rap. Ive been helping him with managing his social media so I figured I would share his music with you all and see if anyone is interested. His most recent album is "Light" and his first one doing rap/hip hop.

Here's a preview of one of his songs. This one is my favorite.

I'd appreciate it if you checked him out, its definitely worth a listen to.

Total Miner Discussion / [PC] PC Survival Contentions / New Ideas
« on: May 09, 2018, 04:09:17 PM »
Awhile back I made a post about the issues I felt were most important to the survival/dig deep portions of the game. This of course was on the 360 almost 2 years ago, and most of these have been fixed or are going to later on. I recommend reading that post before continuing on here. This caused a great discussion among the community and I'm hoping this post will do the same.

I will be structuring this post in the same way. As said before, these are my opinions, so feel free to agree/disagree and dispute them as they see fit. But please remain respectful. Again I will make comparisons to other games (this includes minecraft) so please stow anger until the end of the post. Also I seem to struggle to spell so please forgive any grammar mistakes.

Here are the following issues / ideas I have in no particular order:

================================================================================
1) Too many animals, so little use

--> I was on the bandwagon that shouted "More animals, we need more animals" and when they came I was very excited. However since playing the PC version I am beginning to see how very useless they truly are. Yes, they provide food that you can cook to return health, but unless you're on legendary (Im assuming its just legendary mode, correct me if im wrong) you dont need them because you have regenerative health. Even then there is no use to the food because i found it much easier to store my things in a chest, kill myself to regain full health, walk back to my home and collect my items. You cant do this in minecraft cause you'll lose XP (more on that in a moment) and the food affects a hunger bar so its an indirect regenerative health source. Since there is no hunger bar and no XP in Total Miner, there is effectively no use for the animals food.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
Add a hunger bar:
--> Yes I know you can script one yourself. My argument against that is you can essentially script everything you want, that doesnt mean it shouldn't be in the game. Yes I know that would make it similar to minecraft. My argument against that is like saying "Call of Duty shouldn't have 'X' rifle because *insert any FPS here* has that gun already" I believe this would make the game much more interesting and actually give the animals a use.

Add an XP system:
--> See arguments above. I don't know how this would work exactly without minecraft enchantments (Which i despise so definitely not in that same vain). But if you can throw things in a chest and kill yourself without any consequence the food system in the game is thrown out of balance. Perhaps leveling up improves some base mining speed, walking speed, or something similar.
================================================================================
2) Too many animals, so little control

--> During my playthrough of desert survival legendary I realized animals was the only effective way of gathering food. I could have farmed but I knew very little about it and Total Miner's farming is very primitive (Dont worry, Ill be going after that next). It was rather annoying chasing down loads of animals just to gather food. Plus you need milk for certain cooking recipes yet cant domesticate the animals (ill touch on that later) It would be easier if you could pen them/breed them. Once again yes I know this is already a thing in minecraft, but I would add it should be much harder. You cant just whip out wheat and have them follow you without restraint, then have them breed immediately. Rather I would have some kind of rope/rangling where you would have to drag the cattle/other animals back to the pen. This could be affected by one's strength skill even. And then breeding would happen almost randomly. The player can make the pen suitable for the animal (I.E. water and grass in the pen) but the animals only breed on a random clock. This would be easier than chasing down animals to create a meal, yet be hard enough that the player isnt loaded up on food after a day of gameplay like in minecraft.
================================================================================
3) Make Farming Great Again

--> I am not the first to not like farming. I will not be the last. Using the proposed things in argument one, farming would be vital to survival gameplay. Yes its so primitive and I have never seen anyone ever do it. In fact I have never seen any crops grown on any survival map I hopped on back in the day. That could be because food was/is useless. I argue its also because no one knows how to do it. The only knowledge about it came from Craigs farming video from Youtube (which has less than 2k views) and the Total Miner Wiki (dont even get me started on how awful the wiki is) and those are not reliable sources. No one knows the irrigation distance (4 blocks) because there is no indicator to know when a crop block is irrigated (I.E. Minecrafts color change). No one knows what tools to use for them (I used a scythe as a weapon on a server before i was told its a farming tool). And no one knows the recipes to make anything (and yes i know easy craft is a thing, but ten points if you can tell me how to make dough without looking it up). None of these things are fun to do and make the whole process clunky.

I recently discovered Potatoes and Corn had been added to the game, yet cant be eaten straight. Rather strange. Also there is such thing as raw fish yet no way to obtain it in survival mode without purchasing it. The system is messed up.

--> My solution to this problem is to simplify the whole process. New players need to see some form of response to know crops are irrigated. The crafting recipes need to be simplified. Now the recipes shouldn't be similar to minecraft, but I will say you can fairly understand how those work without having to look it up.
================================================================================
4) Trees/Wood in General

--> To get away from farming, simply enough there should be more trees added into the game, and more plank wood styles. We had loads of mineral bricks and polished bricks added, and I think its time that the wood got the same treatment. It would also diversify the landscape a lot.

--> Im also gonna tag on that tree leaves still dont disappear. I mentioned it in the previous post and IM still bitter cause it annoys me to no end.
================================================================================
5) Generated Structures/NPC involvement

--> I also touched on this in the previous post, but I want to expand it further. I dont want generated structures just to say that they are in the game. The reason is that when you start a new map, desert, semi-alpine, or grasslands, you are dropped into an untouched landscape that only you can change. Yes i understand the game's point is that you build stuff. But wouldn't it be nice if there were pyramids in the desert? Villages in the grasslands? Mineshaft's going into the semi-alpine mountains.With all the improvement on NPC A.I. and interaction with the player, it seems a waste to leave this all to the creative mode of the game. Have random soldiers roaming around who want to trade items, and will attack you if you attack them. Dwarves hanging out near mineshafts. Hostile mobs guarding desert pyramid entrances.

It would be exciting to see more interactions with mobs that arent trying to eat your face off in the night.
================================================================================
6) Ores, Ores, Ores

--> Finally we get to the fun stuff. There are so many ores in the game its a shame they're so hard to get. This touches on the caving aspect in the OP, but when you go down in a mineshaft its just a see of limestone, basalt, diorite, etc.. The mini map is a must if you are going to find a substantial amount of ores on a mining trip. There are so many ores but I feel i struggle to find them when I need them. This may be tough, but the ores should generate closer to edges of the cave, or even on their sides. Otherwise you're playing a game at 1080p whilst staring at a small rectangle in the corner of your screen.
================================================================================
7) Progression

--> The progression of items in this game is downright flawed. Most of this is due to the shop system, but I've spoken my peace about those pesky things. Regardless, without skills on to slow your progression to a slow grind, it is a very inconsistent progression in terms of tools. Wood to Iron is good for me. Iron is easily found and I never struggled to get it. I cant say the same for carbon though, and the little I found wasn't enough to advance to steel tools. Instead I found greenstone and gold and completely skipped that tier of progression altogether which was way too easy. Then I find myself in a slow search for diamond/ruby/titanium. Pairing this with the need for tools such as axes, shovels, and farming equipment, it made me feel stuck at a certain or skipping some entirely altogether. I was using iron farming tools with a diamond pick because I couldnt find enough. Maybe im bad at the game, let me know.
================================================================================
8.0) Combat

--> Without animation, the combat has a ceiling set on it from the beginning. But I will talk about what is preventing it now. The multitude of weapons should make combat in Tm fun, but it turns it into a stationary poke fight with the mobs in the game. You put on your best armor and craft 4 different types of weapons and grab your food and head out at night. And then you sit there slapping a dryad with a sword whilst listening to your character "oof" for 30 seconds. You collect what the mob dropped, rinse and repeat. There is no speed, no strength, no agility. Just left click until dead, eat if you get hurt. This gets even more boring the higher your stats/armor gets. Ranged combat becomes the most boring. Stand atop a 4 block high wall where they cant hit you. Shoot until dead or run out arrows. Rinse and repeat.

--> Combat between players is even more ridiculous. Jump squat and spam left click until your opponent is so weak he turns and runs. But there is no run. So you chase him in circles until you make a mistake and he gets away, or he misses a jump and you kill him. Dont believe me? Watch the family guy hunger games. Count how many encounters ended like that.

Maybe its boring for me because there is no animation. Minecrafts combat is similar and extremely boring. I dont know what do you guys think?
================================================================================

Possibly more to be added, this is by no means an exhaustive list. Please be respectful in the comments and feel free to agree/disagree and add your comments on the thread, Thanks!

Any additions will be made in a new post, and I will update the OP accordingly.

Questions and Answers / [Answered] Saplings

How does one acquire saplings? I chopped all the wood and none fell. i then proceeded to break leaf blocks by hand and never got any sapling. I'm on Legendary Desert survival and wood is kind of a necessity. Is it simply rarer?

Ideas / Clocks and Compass
« on: January 03, 2018, 02:46:32 PM »
I'm making an adventure story based map. I believe this would make the game better for the genre of maps. I'm not just trying to cater to my own map ;)

Clocks: - We already have isTime and is Clock scripts in the game, but essentially the player has to guess what time it is using the sun. If you're inside the player has no way of telling what time it is, unless the host tells them the specific time or uses scripts to update every so often. It'd be useful to give the player something. We can script a door to only open at a certain time of day, but the player doesn't know specific times. Unless everything is done in either the day or night, its difficult.
I.E. "The door only opens when the moon is directly overhead" would correlate to midnight yes? But if they're inside they don't know when that it.

Compass: - I would prefer to give the player an item that can given and taken away as opposed to using the compass. I'm assuming the compass it apart of the adventure permission, and I would like players to only have the compass at a specific point in the story line.

Opinions?

Questions and Answers / Best Way to Mine in Survival
« on: December 26, 2017, 09:23:30 PM »
Whats the best way to find ores in survival? I can only seem to find iron and such when I roam the surface. When I go caving I can't find many useful ores, and building a tradition mine like in Minecraft doesn't grant any ores. I'm on legendary so I don't use shops whatsoever so I need useful ores like Iron, Gold, Diamond. Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

« on: December 26, 2017, 08:46:03 PM »
This video is a quick mesh of me messing around in game whilst recording and playing at max settings. There a few hiccups in the beginning when the world is loading, And I sped up a lot of footage (building/sunset at the end) so it may seem blurry.

Any comments or suggestions Ill hope to answer!

Sorry for the formatting:

Spoiler for Hidden Content:
They say 16 is the most exciting time of your life. It was for me, but for all the right reasons. As I strolled late into my first 5:00 PM driving class, I noticed the teacher sleeping in the corner whilst playing a safety video from must have been early 1977, a girl with a septum piercing who could have played linebacker for the Bears, and my old friend Nick from grade school sitting on the other side of the room. He waved and gave a smile that suggested he wanted me to sit by him. To this day, I don’t know why I didn’t sit by him, but all I know is that it may have been both my greatest and worst decision. My legs took me to a chair dead center in the room, directly in front of the screen, but more importantly it had empty seats nearby. I was very self-conscious, I should have sat with my friend. But I didn’t. I sat alone in the center, with no human being within 5 feet of me. I stared at the dim projector with a grave disinterest in the matter. I should have been excited, a 16 year old me in driving class should be a jovial memory. But I quickly lost focus, put my earbuds in, and zoned out. It must have been about quarter after when the video ended. I can only assume because my phone died as the credits rolled and the poorly calibrated clock behind me was stuck at 10:00 AM. As I put my earbuds into my sweatshirt pocket, I noticed a blonde strand of hair in my peripheral vision. I looked up to see a girl, sitting with her right leg folded underneath her, doodling on a piece of paper. Her hand moved with a sense of familiarity, and it wasn’t until she looked up and caught my eyes that I recognized her. I quickly looked down at my phone, pretending it was broken since the battery was still dead. Anything to not lock eyes again. My palms began to sweat, my heart started racing. I stalled for what felt like an eternity before she tapped my hand.
   “Do I know you from somewhere?” She asked. Her voice flowed like poetry in a world still learning the alphabet. I was silent. I knew exactly who she was. Her eyes were unlike any other. Like a knife cutting through hot butter, they would destroy your strength before you could do anything. Of course I knew who she was. I even knew her birthday was July 27.
   “I don’t think you do,” I replied shakily. One would think five words would be no trouble from a fully literate person. But in that moment, it felt as the words were chained in my throat, being ripped out piece by piece. I don’t know why I lied, I always had a tendency to, especially if the truth made the situation even more uncomfortable.
   “I don’t know you look really familiar,” She said. I was still staring at her. Her eyes melted like a spring sunset fading in through the windows. My lie was breaking, and it was only a matter of time before she knew who I was.
   “Wait a minute,” I pretended as if I was figuring it out for the first time, “Makenzie is that you?”
   “Oh my god Jeff!” She said, just quiet enough so no one else heard it. The excitement in her voice gave me goosebumps. No one was ever excited to see me, I was always a wallflower.
   “I haven’t seen you since-”
   “Eighth grade year,” I interrupted. I sunk back in my chair at this. It was too obvious that I remembered immediately who she was. I knew too much. But she didn’t seem to notice.
   She began to reminisce about our past. She was my best friend, my closest confidant, my first crush. Everytime she spoke I listened with the most ultimate form of focus. It was as if I was dying of thirst, and her mouth was full of water, as I clasped my hands together with the utmost strength as to not lose a single drop. The teacher kept teaching, but to this point I had forgotten I was supposed to be learning how to drive. I could wait 50 years to drive, what was important was right in front of me. For 3 hours we talked, made fun, and took shots at each other. Watching her jump into her mom’s car at the end of the night and drive off was the saddest I had ever felt to that point in my life. I was slowly beginning my walk to my brother’s car when I felt my heart drop into my chest. She was taken from me again. 3 days passed before I went back to driving class. I could barely sleep or focus in class. I had an English paper due that same day, but refused to do it because thinking of those 3 hours were more important. I feel as if my sophomore teacher may not have understood at the time why I was such a poor student, but I did not care. Nothing mattered but her.
   I showed up to my next class a half hour early. Sitting in the same center seat, I chased away anyone who tried to sit near me. At 5:04 she walked in. I know this because our teacher remarked, “you owe me 4 dollars for the 4 minutes you were late.” We spent the next 3 hours talking again. We picked up right where we left off. Had the two days been cut and pasted together into a film, the audience would have no idea any time had passed. She spoke with an elegance that competed with that of nobility. Her posture made me feel both inferior and at home at the same time. I lacked both the ability to think and to move. I had to use the bathroom so bad, but waited until I was all the way home to go.
This is how it went on for the next two weeks. I had gotten her number, so even after driving school was over we would talk all the time. In a time where I felt little point in life, where the slightest bit of effort made me groan with distaste, I had a light at the end of the tunnel. Once again she had become my best friend. I never saw her much, we were both very busy. But if plans came up, I would drop whatever I was doing to see her. She was also my closest confidant. I told her things about me I could not even admit to myself. But worst of all she became my interest again. There wasn’t a moment that went by I wouldn’t jump at the sound of a text message, just to see if it was from her. I was addicted to a drug with no cure.
But as time went on, the texts came less and less often, the conversations less meaningful, and the spark we once had seemed to have drained from her system. I felt as if we were both on a railway handcar, but as I was furiously pumping up and down, she gave no effort in return. Until eventually communication ceased. I never heard from, spoke to, or even thought of Makenzie. Life went on as it always does. But a piece was missing from my life. I felt as if something was taken from me, stolen by a thief with no footprints. I had fallen in love with someone I could not call my own. I longed for arms that did not want to wrap themselves around me. I felt as if I was waiting for a boat at an airport. I loved someone who didn’t love me back.
“Jeff, that’s Andrew” she said pointing to a short, stocky guy in the corner of the room. The party was loud. Bad rap music played from a blown out speaker, red solo cups littered the countertops and floors, and it smelt like sweat and bad decisions.
“Yeah I know him, he’s a really cool dude.” I said. At this point I’d say anything just to leave this crowded basement.
“He really smart, he has a great sense of humor, and he just gets me you know?” She said.
“Yeah, no, I totally understand.” I knew just what she wanted. Whether she truly cared about it or not, she wanted my opinion of him to be positive. We had history, if not a tiny bit of it to her. I don’t blame her, everyone wants to hear that their “special someone” is great and liked by everyone. Its human nature. So I her what she wanted my lackluster approval.
“You know I feel the same way I feel about him as I did about you sophomore year,” She said abruptly. I coughed up my drink. Before this was just some small talk, barely recognizable conversation and she just dropped a bombshell like that.
“Wait what?” I asked dumbfounded.
“Oh come on, you know I had the biggest crush on you,” She said “you could have asked me out in front of everyone at driving school and I would’ve said yes.” I stared at her with the most confused look possible. How could it be that all those lost hours of sleep were wasted because of the lack of such crucial information?
“Oh well, ancient history right?” She said with a giggle before I could think of a response.
I couldn’t sleep that night, I don’t think anyone could. Two and a half years I had feelings for someone who felt the exact same way towards me, but I did nothing. Maybe I was naive, scared, or some combination of the two. I thought of my grandparents. They were the perfect couple. Up and until the moment my grandfather passed away they were always together. My grandparents always had a response to hard times. I remembered something vivid she told me about my grandfather. She always counted herself lucky, to end up with her soulmate. But one day I asked her a question I still somewhat regret to this day.
“Grandma,” I asked, “Why aren’t some people married like you and grandpa?
“Well,” She said, “One day, whether you are 14, 28, or 65, you will stumble upon someone who will start a fire in your heart that cannot die.” She paused for an uncomfortable amount of time. “However,” She continued, “The saddest, most awful truth you will ever come to find, is that they are not always whom we spend our lives with.”

       I still think about that quote, but not in the same context. I spent years stuck on her. I only started dating other girls because friends would tell me “you can’t spend the best years of your life waiting for someone to love you back.” They were right I guess. My patience took me to the cliff, but I didn’t jump. I didn’t build my own path. I should have created opportunity, not waited for circumstance. It was not drugs, alcohol, violence, or poor decision making that damage my future, it was patience. I waited too long for her. I dated other girls with no real intention of going anywhere with them because I only wanted her. But Makenzie was that one girl I did wrong, cause I was young and I thought that I had too much living to do. When in reality, my whole future right there.

Intro
Spoiler for Hidden Content:
Hey Guys, many of you remember my gaming channel, Nefty, and all the fun videos of Total miner I had on there.

Well Youtube claims that I have used copyrighted material, and we all know where this goes. I have ceased uploading any content to my channel, and as such, it should remain as it is. All advertisements have been removed, all the videos have been unlocked. Everything, from survival to cinematics to tutorials should remain up there as long as Youtube so wishes it. I however cannot continue on that channel.

A few of you know that on my new channel I planned on doing some more professional things on (animations, profile pic/channel art design). This will become my only Youtube channel where I post all my videos, gaming and what not.

Once TM is released for PC I will upload Total Miner content, so don't fret. I don't have videos on this new channel yet, but I do have 2-4 possible videos in the works (Overwatch/Paladins/GTA V/ etc....) on various different games. I hope the Total Miner content will come soon enough.
