General Discussion / Re: [How to] Building your own gaming PC?
« on: March 14, 2019, 09:22:00 AM »
I've just purchased and 8gb stick of DDR4 RAM (Later on I'll uograde to 16gb) along with a 240gb SSD.

If your motherboard has 4 slots then you're better off with 4 x 4gb.

2 x 4gb is also better than 1 x 8gb.

Unless you only have 2 slots and plan on running 2 x 8gb eventually.

in your opinion would you rather have say 8 or 16 gb of ddr4 rather than 32 of ddr3?

Other than ddr4 having higher clock speeds there's not a massive difference. It's arguable whether the typical end user would notice any difference at all.

But... that's irrelevant as they're not 'backwards compatible' You can't use ddr3 in a ddr4 motherboard or ddr4 in a ddr3 motherboard. So any comparisons would also involve different motherboards and processors.

Hey, soon you'll have a 1 year anniversary of this topic.

Haha. yep. It's also kind of saddening that there hasn't been any other way to host multiplayer worlds in nearly a year from starting this topic, either official or alternatives to the piknet mod.

But hey ho. I'm sure we'll get there eventually. ;)

Obviously this idea was a massive success............

Anyways... I currently have a server online for testing using the systems Steampunk world. Mainly to see what kind of resources are needed to host a server 24/7. As there isn't currently any other option it is done using Toothpiks multiplayer mod, which you will also need.

Server IP:

Server is based in the UK but as I also have servers in the US, France & the Netherlands there is other options. It's far from an ideal multiplayer setup but at the moment it's the best we have.

Please test the server and give me any feedback you can.

Anyone can test updates by going to the properties of the game on Steam and selecting the Beta tab.

I know this sounds crazy, but is there anyway at all that you could host a TotalMiner server on any distro of Linux?
Would someone be able to code a mod, script, or really anything at all to be able to do such a task?

Not at the moment. You could try using mono or wine. I've had limited success with it.

Something like this? If not that's the best we got till an official one releases.

It sounds like they are looking for something to run natively on Linux so what you've suggested wouldn't work.

See this:

Technically, it's possible now by using the MP mod (if it still works). Though I would be reluctant to use that and would rather wait for an official implementation.

Total Miner was created on June 24th 2011. So that would make it as of June 24th 2018 7 years old.

Yeah, well I was playing Total Miner on the original Xbox and joined this forum before it was even made, so there.

Questions and Answers / Re: Can't update

Unfortunatly nothing microsoft discontinued there indie market services so you can't install any indie updates or games. only thing i can think of is if you have a friend with the latest version ask them to send you thr file through your pc or somthing. Only thing is, is you need a usb drive to put the file on and put it on your xbox. however im not 100% that will work as i didn't need to do it.

Not true. They only stopped selling indie games. You can still download ones you've purchased. The issue will be elsewhere.

Sounds like it's being sandboxed or quarantined by your anti virus.

TEMPORARILY disable any protection (anti virus. firewall. defender etc...) and try again.

If that doesn't help then try uninstalling the game, rebooting, and reinstalling it. All with the above disabled.

DO NOT forget to re enable any protection you use once you've finished testing.
