Are you talking about the groups on the forums? If you are, then sure, you could join all of them if for some reason you really wanted to.

It's the one that you can assign a clan emblem to I believe. It's been awhile since I've played.

Yes clans are for emblems. I use them in my world. I think colors represent testers and such.
