[Answered] Saplings

How does one acquire saplings? I chopped all the wood and none fell. i then proceeded to break leaf blocks by hand and never got any sapling. I'm on Legendary Desert survival and wood is kind of a necessity. Is it simply rarer?

When you chop wood, a sapling may fall from a random leaf block near the wood. So there must be leaves around the wood. But it will only fall if there is a grass or dirt block on the ground below the leaf block, it won't fall if there is sand below it. So you need to kind of put an area of grass or dirt around the tree trunk, under the leaves.

Dirt doesn't spawn randomly underground like in minecraft, so the best course of action is to go to all the oasis' on the map collect the dirt and build a platform for a tree farm.

Correct. Dirt is also under long grass scattered around. You can collect that too while farming the long grass for seeds.
