Title: Fan art contests
Post by: Phantom on January 02, 2018, 10:57:27 AM
Eh?! Eh?! It can be a big thing if you make it big and it could be used for advertising. Although I geel this topic has been made.

If I remember well this kinda thing was rejected in the past because not everyone can do graphics design etc. Contests are only fun if everyone can take part in them.

It could've been a different forum so don't quote me on this.

We did the video contest but only a few of us make videos, or at least ones that qualified for the contest. Exactly what Crab said there just isn't enough "demand" for lack of a better word.

Its not a bad suggestion. Anyone can download paint.net (yes its free) which, if you learn enough, is as good as photoshop. The problem lies in that you only reward people with enough time to learn it. Maybe in the future, but right now I doubt it.

Just Curious, Because this really interested me. Is there an equivalent to paint.net on mac? If not, I might go for photo shop.

How so equivalent?
There is GIMP in which is less simple however still free such as paint.net and is available for Mac OSX.

You guys are over thinking.
Anyone can make fan art with paper and pencils, markers etc. Not everyone needs to be a tech genius to create art.

What chance does a pen and pencil have against a HD image?

Here's an example of pure pencil work.

The only reason why digital has an advantage over traditional is purely time. Digitally you can produce this level of art much quicker than you could traditionally.

One of the ways to win the Artist forum award is to be a "contest winner", so I would assume there will be a few art based contests at some point in the future.
