*Apparently my post was deleted, please let me know why so I can fix whatever I did wrong!

Crevis is a world that you can manipulate at will with the use of tools and machines. Fight the mighty foes of the land, or crack the dark secrets that its deep universe hides. Travel to different planets, discover remarkable entities, craft advanced machinery, and most of all, discover your purpose and what put you to it.

As of February 5th, 2017, I have been remaking Crevis from the ground up, implementing far more efficient methods of doing things. Here is what is to be done:

The devblog for Crevis can be found here:
http://www.crevis.net/devblog (http://www.crevis.net/devblog)

Feel free to ask any questions about the game!

Hello everyone! I tried posting about this earlier, must've got deleted or something.
I deleted it because the post looked like a spam bot. You were lucky I didn't delete the account as well.

The way it was written and formatted. And the fact it was your first post on this forum.

Hello everyone! I tried posting about this earlier, must've got deleted or something. Anyways, last year, a guy named Loltsnoops or something like that made a post on Crevis. I'd like to clarify that I was the one that was developing the game and that it's being rebooted into an entirely new aspect.

Crevis features many advanced items to craft into other items with crafting stations that are upgraded as you progress through the tiers. Anyways, as Crevis is still in development, we don't know all of the features that it will have (obviously  ::) ). Anyways, the site is http://www.crevis.net.

Catch you later!

From what I have read of the forums and from what I have seen of the art style, the game looks really interesting. I will for sure keep updated with it. Is there any information as to lore, how the game works, or anything like that which you could give us information on?

The game is still in early stages, I've been working on lore and graphics but I could use helping hands! And, yes, the game is in need of pixelated graphics. Also, the game will have a crafting approach where you craft items from resources found in the world. There will be planets where there are better resources than the one you start on. As you travel the stars, resources that were valuable on the starting planet are now common. To use the materials on the advanced planets, you will need to upgrade your crafting stations. Upgrading your crafting station will allow you to craft more things with more materials. Crafting stations can include ovens, anvils, kitchen in a box.. get the picture? Anyways, that's what I WANT the game to be and what I'm going for.

It's small if you are referring to a community. I'm trying to grow the community, trying to find people interested in my game  :D (however that was not the purpose of this thread)

To get to the next planet, will you have portals? Or will it be a build a spaceship to get to world 2, crash land, have to build a stronger one to break the new atmosphere to get to world 3.

The second option would allow for mechanics, "Redstone" if you will, it could lead to building moon buggies and vehicles.

Crafting could use "X" metal parts(depending on size) 4x rubber(tires, also a new block that bounces you, or stops fall damage) and a circuit board(copper wires, made from... copper)

Also, what program would you prefer the graphics to be made in, I can start on a few prototypes in TM here if you'd like.

Can I have a few things that you need graphics of(tools, blocks,... Animals...) the style(futuristic, medieval, etc.), and block size(pixels X pixels X pixels)

I have always wanted to help make a game, and this may be my chance to be the very best, like no one(except Craig) ever was.

Here's a rushed plant, how's it look?

My brother was hassling me because he wanted to get on league. I had to throw in terrible shading for the dirt and grass.

I would love to see a block, or something that you have, so I can reformat this.(http://i58.tinypic.com/wanl3b.jpg)

Just wanted to come back and say that I'm having a great time learning about Crevis on their forums. The more I read the more I want to play.

Also, is Mysterio on the development team? I saw something about the MysterioFan being a part of the team, or something. Found that interesting.

I won't let just anyone on the team whenever. I'll be waiting to see if they are trustworthy.

Mysterio is a pretty active member here, and it just surprised me a bit to see his name on the website at all. Let alone on the Team part of the website.

Is this topic even allowed? Rule #16 says:  16) No advertising, ie, don't post topics on your ebay shop, or selling xbox points cards, etc. These will be treated exactly as a spambot and removed without warning

Advertising isn't allowed, if you are selling something.

He's just spreading the word about his game, which is 100% allowed on the forums.

As long as it doesn't sell you anything, or ask about giving them free stuff, its okey

The game hasn't been released yet, so even if you wanted to you wouldn't be able to spend any money on the game.

I thought it was neat that you had a contribution section. Call it an incentive, if you want. It was just a bit confusing at first. If you had it in a separate section of the website, that would make things a bit more clear for readers. Or, at least, a preface explaining what entails being a contributor.

The contrast of a realistic background with supremely pixelated and simple block textures (the grasses and trees are actually quite nice but the dirt and cobble just look too cartoony in contrast) and the sun... just... the sun... might need some revision. It looks great overall, but those two factors take away a bit from the look as a whole.

This isn't actually in the game. It's blurry and dark so that it can fit in on the home page, where you can't notice the supremely pixelated realistic backgrounds or the cartoonish look of the stone. Quite nice when all blurred, the final product is on the home page. ;)

I'm going to be setting up 'Halloween decorations' on the Crevis website! They should be up by the end of today or earlier.

Lol. Awesome.

Edit: Even though the Halloween reskin hasn't hit the website, I am really digging the home page a lot more than the old home page.

Well, I'm going to have to postpone updating the website. I'm adding in a new page with lots of game info on it. I decided to update it all at once, so I'm guessing the page will be done by tomorrow. Then I'll publish the updates on the website.

Well, there's the 'comment' section. And yeah, I agree with you. I want to link the blog with the forum so it's more smooth. And maybe the account doesn't need to be just the forum account but your overall Crevis account. If the game, forums, blog, and wiki were all synchronized that would be awesome.

New name for game ?

What do you mean? If I were to rename it, it won't have any 'mine' or 'craft' or 'dig' (i.e. Explorecraft or Mine The World) Personally I think the game COULD use a rename but I've already bought the domain crevis.net and it already has a semi-reputation, so I'm probably going to keep it with this name. It would also involve a mass database rename which would take a long while and slow down the development process.

Title: Re: Biome Diversity

How?

Well, firstly, there's no corresponding running/walking/jumping animations. Secondly, the sprites themselves are a single combination of a hair style, so it would be the hair style for every single player in the game. Although the problem is more toward the first problem I listed.

I am currently working with Niften on writing the lore. Not to say that you wouldn't be welcome, that'd be up to him, of course, and another set of hands would probably help, but just wanted to throw that out there.

Well, we want to keep some things secret, and the coding language is one of them ;)

Did I say I needed a lore writer here? It's one of the open applications on the recruit page, check that out if you're interested.

In total miner, when visiting other players worlds you can rate their worlds on a rating system of 1-5 stars.

Players often beg for rates, and also often misspell basic words like rate, so rat 5/rat 6 is a joke on the rating system.

To get to the next planet, will you have portals? Or will it be a build a spaceship to get to world 2, crash land, have to build a stronger one to break the new atmosphere to get to world 3.

The goal is to have a UI that allows you to search for any star system you would like, to select it, and to travel there, no 'world 2' or 'world 3,' but many, many infinite star systems that you are able to travel to.

WOW.....ok...I tried to make an account on your forums and the verification didn't get sent to me and I tried the "Forgot your password thing" and it says it's not the right E-mail. I checked and it's right. Could you like delete the account or something and I can try to Re-register?

Technology hates me.... :P

Ok...The "NO-SCRIPT" add-on on firefox, blocked the verification from getting to me.

Please delete the Littleman and Littleman7 accounts.... the first one didn't send the verification. And the second needs me to answer a question in order to sign in that only my dads knows and he's NOT going to answer.

PS: If you delete them, will I be able to register again? And under the same name and email address.

PSSSSSSSS:OOOOORRRRRR....is it possible for you to re-send the verification?

Screw that, sending you a new password to the Littleman account through PM. then try to reset it once you log in.

Title: Re: New In-Dev Sandbox Indie Game Crevis
Post by: Niften on July 08, 2015, 05:22:48 PM
Hello, everybody:

I'm aware I haven't posted recently, and I can explain why. I've hit an enormous roadblock. I began working on it as I usually would, perhaps, after a short break of a few weeks of not doing anything with it, and when I launched the game to test a new feature, the lag was incredible. Walking left or right would make it even worse, dropping the frame rate from a steady 60 to a shocking 14 in less than a second.

I deleted the new feature at once, but I saw no difference in performance. I changed the world type to '100' (the flat world you see in the majority of the development videos) and everything seemed to be at normal speed then, but a flat world forever would hardly do. My mind started to race towards other solutions including totally disregarding the current world generator in favor of pre-made worlds, but the idea didn't appeal to me as much. I had already spent a few weeks trying to fix this problem, and I contacted the developers of the program I use. After a few days of waiting and trying fruitlessly to fix the lag, they replied to me and told me about other bits of the game that may have been causing the lag. I tried what they suggested with no success. And now, that brings me to today.

I've seen only one more possible option, and that's downgrading Crevis to an earlier version, disregarding months of effort. From this older copy I could re-create what I've created, or take new features from the newer version and import them into the older version. And now, I begin this tedious process. Thank the Lord that I have backups, otherwise, I couldn't think of how else I would resolve this issue.

Again, I'm sincerely sorry for the lack of updates and content images.
Until next time,

Niften

It seems crazy to revert to a months old back up. Can't you use a profiler to work out what's causing the low frame rate? Or keep commenting out code until you find the cause, then fix?

Using a profiler is a great idea, I'm glad you mentioned it because I didn't think of it. However, I think it's impossible now to do that because the game won't even run anymore. I've sent a ticket to the developers of the program about it, but I don't want to be entirely dependant on them.

Commenting out lines of code until I single out the issue was among the techniques I've used recently. However, I had no luck. By all means, if they respond to my ticket then I'll try profiling (if they manage to figure out why it isn't running, because I'm absolutely sure it isn't an error on my part; all errors within the code will stop the game and tell me about it).

Which means the problem is on your side right?
I'm starting to lean toward that conclusion too, because of the results downgrading show that it's either a problem with my game or an ongoing bug in GM:Studio. I can run other test projects, so it makes it seem like Crevis may be the one with the issue. I don't quite understand how this is happening because it usually always runs the project, or an error window will pop up with all of the errors, which isn't happening. All I can really think of is to wait for their response.

So, I've found out:
So, I've finally gotten around the fact that I couldn't even run the game; I had a backup from after the game started lagging, but before it stopped running. Now that I'm able to run it, I profiled the game and I figured out what's causing the lag.

The world generation script and, ironically, the render script intended to reduce the amount of lag.

So now I'm going to proceed to fixing these things.
Thanks for your help, Craig!

IT'S FIXED! HOORAY! I took the render script from an old backup and replaced the one I have now with that one. And now, the lag is 100% gone!

I've stumbled upon Spine, which is a very neat 2D animator. The "Essential" version of Spine is $69, so I'm debating on whether to get it or not. I'm very impressed by the quality of the animations created by Spine, and it's also very quick.

I have a ton of ideas for Crevis, most of which are held back by the fact that I am horrendous at animating with sprite sheets, which is what I'm doing currently. If I learn how to use Spine, then maybe these sprites can be created a lot faster and hopefully content will be pumped out a lot more quickly.

Yes you definitely should! If not could you hire a guy to make you professional sprites and 2d graphics for your game?

My budget is set very low so I'm probably just going to get Spine. Trust me, it will look great... if I learn how to work the thing. :P

First I want to address why there has been lack of updates for Crevis. School has resumed for me and it's harder than ever, so I've been very focused on that. However, I created this to test Adobe Flash:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaZkaoBIgWQ
I promise I'll find time to work on Crevis, but there just hasn't been enough time to get something completely done. But I can show you a WIP of the new dimension's portal!

The first lore video on Crevis:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqGyrqoD2vs&feature=youtu.be
It's my first one, so don't hang me for the effects  ::)

This video is about one of the 'dimensions' in Crevis, the Riftus, which is accessible through a huge crack in the fabric of spacetime. In the Riftus, an there's an infinite span of white (hint hint) where everything is pretty funky. I don't want to say everything, because there are some things I want to keep for the video that will be exploring the Riftus in the actual game.

Also: When there's a lore video there's more often that not going to be a development video following it (if the lore video shows a new feature).

It can be available on a TON of platforms if I get enough money to export it. GameMaker Studio offers exporting to multiple platforms like XBOX or PlayStation or Steam, or on mobile devices, but as of now I'm targetting PC. Console versions could come after that.

I would say I could help with getting it to Xbox 360 but I don't know if that is a goal since it would only have a year on Xbox.

To my understanding, they are no longer allowing any indie games on the Xbox 360 at all. The year that you're talking about is only for updating currently published games.

New games can be released, you just can't buy new subscriptions. So if you already have a subscription, you can release a new game, if you don't already have a subscription, you can't. But it doesn't matter for Niften, games made with Game Maker can't be released to Xbox Live Indie Games on the 360.

Can you explain a little more.
For example, if I had a minigame game mode, the game types could be Capture the Flag, or King of the Hill, pretty much any 'mini' game. For a story mode or something, I could have people follow a storyline, figuring out pieces of the lore and stuff to get to the end like any role playing game.

So, the CTF framework is completely done, I'm just fixing some GUI inconsistencies on smaller-resolution computers and then I'll start working on maps. And after that I just need to finish a few other minigames, we can look at a release! :D It may sound like a lot but it's truly a LOT easier than normal stuff.

We're doing this because we're actually going to be making more games, and with a setup like this we can have as many games as we want without buying a domain for all of them!

Hello folks,

I'm proud to say that I will be hosting a Crevis building competition from November 27th to December 27th! In this time you will have access to a sort of "snapshot" of Crevis's building mechanics, as well as every single building material in the game. The theme of the contest is to build villages. The winning entries will become randomly generated structures in the game, and, if wanted, the winners themselves will have the opportunity of joining the Crevis build team.

The winners will also be able to have a say in the judgement of future build contests.

The download for Crevis: Build Snapshot (C:BS) will be up on November 27th.

For more info: http://sourapplestudios.net/contest/ (http://sourapplestudios.net/contest/)

Best of luck to all on the 27th!

(P.S. All participators will get a special forum banner on the forum!)

Also, try setting the file type to 'Installer', maybe that will help

I don't understand, there is no menu nor diagram to show controls, and I cant figure out how to work the game very well.

As of right now a menu isn't much of a priority because this is a snapshot build, I'll fill you in:

B - toggle between background mode and block mode
AWSD - move
F - interact (doors, switch stairs to upside down)
T to open the chat (For commands check this table (very helpful stuff in there): http://crevis.wikia.com/wiki/Commands)

Sorry for the inconvenience, but as I said, it's a really early release that's focusing on being used for the building competition.

Can you check %appdata%\Crevis_Build_Snapshot and see if there's a file called 'options.ini' or 'option.ini' in there?

I'm going to give people a few more hours to submit their entries - I've already received about 15 through email and just one on the forums, so there probably won't be a threatening change in numbers. In the meantime, check out this cool castle village build I received via email:

Here are the winners of the Winter Contest:

1st Place: Nefty
2nd Place: pxtur2010
3rd Place: speeew

It was an extremely close decision. Nefty and Pxtur2010 were tied at first, and the reason that Nefty takes first place over Pxtur is because he posted his submission on the forums. Pxtur emailed me his submission informally, so I chose Nefty over him.

Happy 2016!
