Cooking with gas. The Blacksmiths guide to smelting.
« on: May 11, 2014, 08:15:51 PM »
In the next few days I will post a guide on fuel type efficiency as well as receipe efficiency for players hoping to make the most of smelting.

Fuel type efficiency

Spoiler for Hidden Content:

Smelting was tested on how many blocks of limestone was converted to concrete blocks by the fuel source. Number indicates the amount of blocks produced. Not all blocks are listed, but the majority tested. If there is anything missing please inform me.

Wood fuel sources
1 stick = 1
1 wood pickaxe = 3
1 wood axe = 3
1 wood shovel = 3
1 wood spear = 3
1 wood sword = 3
1 wood shield = 3
1 wood bow = 1
1 wood plank =6
1 wood block=10
1 wood door= 6
1 guilded wood block = 5
1 wood veneer = 6
1 book case = 6
1 chest = 4
1 torch = 1
1 workbench = 4
1 crate = 3
1 ladder = 2
1 sign = 2
1 fence = 3

Alternative fuel sources
1 coal block =17
1 sapling =1
1 flower (all variants) =1
1 climbing Ivy =1
1 uranium block =40
1 leaves block( all variants)=1
1 Woven leaves block = 2
1 bucket of lava = 23
1 book = 1
1 white wool = 2
1 Turkish = 2
1 bone = 1
1 mushroom = 1
1 painting = 3
1 long grass = 1
1 Grass shaded= 1
1 grassy stone = 1

Not fuel sources
1 trapdoor = doesn't burn
1 stairs = doesn't burn
1 half block = doesn't burn
1 ramp = doesn't burn.
1 table = doesn't burn.
1 bed = doesn't burn
1 cylinder = doesn't burn
1 cactus = doesn't burn.
1 bone meal = doesn't burn
1 seed (all variants ) = doesn't burn
1 rope = doesn't burn.
1 wheat = doesn't burn.
1 colour block (all variants)= doesn't burn.
1 pressure plate = doesn't burn

Recipe efficiency
Spoiler for Hidden Content:
Recipe efficiency

Recipe Efficiency is the amount produced by the recipe from one block of coal. Recipes are separated into types.

A -> B
Limestone -> concrete = 16
Iron ore -> iron bars = 16
Clay -> bricks = 16
Sand -> Glass = 16
Ruby -> ruby gem stone = 10
Gold -> gold bar = 12
Sapphire ->sapphire gem stone = 11
Diamond ->diamond gem stone = 8
Gold bars -> coins = 6250
(Produced 250 per gold bar)
Gold blocks -> coins = 18750
(Produced 750 per good block)
250 coins -> gold bar = 12 bars
(250 coins per bar for 1 piece of coal produced 12 bars)

A + B -> C
Iron bar + carbon -> steel bar = 12
Fluorite + carbon -> Teflon = 16
Diamond + steel -> Diamantium bar = 10
Titanium + carbon -> titanium carbide = 6

A+A+A -> B
250 Gold coins = (250GC)
(250GC)+(250GC)+(250GC) -> Gold block = 6

Gold bar = (GB)
(GB)+(GB)+(GB) -> Gold block = 6

A+A -> B
Gold block + gold block -> gold bar = 72
( produce 6 bars per 2 gold blocks)

Based on the amount of blocks 1 piece of coal can smelt per reciepe and multiplied for stack statistics. For example one piece of coal can smelt 16 pieces of limestone.

As a suggestion, it might be better to split up the fuel sources into different subsections.

Some subsection examples:

Wooden Fuel Sources

Non-Fuels

Non-Wooden Organic Fuels

etc.

This would be level and skill depended. The higher level with the tool the less hits. Thanks for the suggestion though.

This is good info. I didn't realise Wooden pickaxes are a free renewable energy source  (shh, don't tell the boss)

When/if books are world transferable, this is the kind of info 'The Most Valuable Book in the Worlds' needs. I hope to see you involved in that when the time comes

I can't believe bone is a fuel source. Anyhow I'd love to help when the time comes to make the book.

Fuel efficiency for Obsidian to gem stones is 7 per coal block.
