question about custom blocks
« on: February 27, 2017, 04:02:03 AM »
just 2 questions i have for now...even though its not getting added for a long time,im still curious on these 2 things

1:will the items be defined by in game textured blocks,or would we have access to a custom rgb setting/option?

2:will each block be limited to a single block size,or would the custom items/blocks pass a single block size(idk how to explain that question exactly so sorry on that)

I'm sure it will one of two options.

1.) You build a component of the block (I would assume 16x16 - 32x32 -OR- 64x64) and then do like you would paste it, but it converts into a 1x1 area.

2.) You have to make a model of it from exterior sources (GIMP, PAINT.NET) and import your design.

I would assume that 32x32 would be the size used, since each custom block would probably have as much data as each block it's made from.

16x16 isn't nearly enough room to make something look good, while 64x64 is way too much data.

I've heard so many diffrrerent rumors about this, I'm just holding off to see it before I make tons of blocks. Same for NPCs.

How would you model something with Paint.NET or GIMP? Lol

Also, The statement that nothing good would be possible at 16 is completely false. FortressCraft had 8 custom blocks which worked well enough. And that was with only full blocks available in custom blocks. We will likely have the ability to use the detail blocks in custom blocks.

The same way you would with minecraft player skins. You'd make the images and clip them together as a top file, front, back, etc.

Almost like you'd import images for a skybox in unity.

And as for the 16x16 modeling, I still think it would look ugly.
